I was planning on going to DTD for dinner on our first night, but am now thinking that getting in the disney mood would be easier to do inside one of the parks. My question is, what would you recommend as a good first night dinner. This will be in August, but w/o the dining plan, so I'm looking for something semi-cheap.

Though it is not cheap, I don't think you can have a better first night dinner than Chef Mickey's. It is technically a character dinner (buffet) with a lot of energy, not to mention good food. This place will get you in the Disney spirit!

Chef Mickey's is our traditional first night meal too.

Well if you do DTD then Wolfgang Pucks Express is great! Or you can eat inside Disney Quest while you play! If you want to do cheap in the parks just do a counter service like Pecos or CHH or even Cosmic Rays

unless you plan on spending time in the parks, just going for a first night dinner would be very expensive. I would suggest Chef Mickeys because you wouldn't need park admission to go there.

Our first night's meal is always at DTD. Going there always puts us in the Disney mood, without wasting a day's park entrance. This year we ate at Raglan Road, last year was Earl of Sandwich.

We stop at the Under $10 store and let the kids buy a Grab Bag. They come with all sorts of little goodies and cost about $7. Then we go back to the hotel for a evening swim and early to bed, so we can rise early and go to a park at opening.

I would say Chef Mickey, or if you don't want a buffet then 'Ohana during Wishes
