First-I need to vent about the elevators at the Contemporary. About the size of a small closet, they are never all working at once and seem to run as slow as syrup on a cold morning. They can probably hold 8 people each--add a stroller and perhaps some luggage and it's even less. On this trip we were the only group in the lobby waiting for the "up" elevator. By the time one showed up, there were about 20 people waiting!! We six packed ourselves in and then a family of 4 tried to get in. The 2 kids made it--but not the parents!!
On the way out of the CG after dinner, there were so many folks waiting for the "down" elevators that a CM was assigned to superrvise the loading when one arrived!!
OK. That's out of my system. Something that needs to be put up with when trying to get to the 15th floor.
Now dinner. The 2 couples we were with had been to Broadway at the Top, but never to CG. They were amazed at the change when we got to the restaurant. Our PS was for 7:45 PM and tho the place was quite full, we were seated immediately. (I should note that when I made my PS, I had to get a table for 4 and a table for 2. All tables for 6 were booked. So I wondered how that would be handled at the restaurant. But no problem--we all sat at a table for 6).
The Grill was it's usual noisy self this evening. Lots of kids and all manner of dress--jackets, dresses, shorts, T-shirts, tennis shoes, etc. The entire right-hand side of the restaurant was closed off due to a "private party" and that meant the observation deck was closed too. But not a problem! They have another door to a different ramp on the other side of the restaurant, and that was opened for fireworks viewing.
Our group ordered drinks first and most got a glass of wine from the excellent wine list (where they will pour a glass from almost ANY bottle and charge 1/4 the bottle price). I opted for a beer. They do have Anchor Steam and Sierra Nevada Pale, but this nite they also had Kirin, so that's what I got.
Our group split 3 appetizers--two Beefsteak tomato salads, and the chicken, fontina and carmalized onion flatbread. The group went entirely with meat for our entrees--4 Filets, and two porkloin. They do have polenta and two different potatoes that are listed for each entree--but they will gladly substitute. My pork came with polenta--but I wanted the scalloped potatoes instead, and thats' what I got. No problem at all.
Mrs U's favorite CG dessert (blueberry cake with blueberry Ice Cream ) was missing from the dessert menu, so she opted for the Butterscotch Creme Brulee. That' what I got also and it was pretty good.
The fireworks commenced while were having dessert, so we all just got up and went out on the deck. Afterwards, we came back and finished dessert and coffee.
Service by the way, was excellent from our "energetic" but friendly server.
So all in all another fine meal at the CG. I've done the Grill for our first nite dinner now the last 3 trips in a row. So next trip we'll probably skip the CG and try something different. But for anyone who has never been (or hasn't been in awhile). it is the perfect spot for that "first night" dinner at WDW.
