I just had my first meal at BB with my sister. I had been hyping it up after reading reviews on the board but it was not up to par today :(.

They seated us at a wobbly table for four directly in front of the bathroom and I immediately had doubts. Three minutes in, a waiter came and took a chair from our table to give to another. A few more minutes later, a second chair was stolen. The server came to take our order and informed us that the signature BB potatoes were NOT available so meals featured rice instead. I was devastated!!! She said they hoped to have them by tomorrow but of course it's too late to book again - they are booked solid. I had the chicken, my sister had the salmon. Both were good, but not worth the $70. I know BB is probably just having an off day, but I was sure disappointed it was on OUR day! :(

Thanks for the review. I don't think I'd ever spend the $ to go there. Not worth it for my fam.

We have had a similar experience in the past, and haven't been back. I'm really sorry that you were disappointed, it's definitely more upsetting when factoring in the cost.

Thanks for the info! I was debating whether or not to make a PS for my trip next week, and "no Blue Bayou potatoes" was the deal breaker. :sad2: . I'm sorry you had such a lousy time.

I am sorry to hear about the not so good experience. Other than not getting waterside a few years back we have never had the problems you encountered. Food was always very good. Last year they brought me a a small cake with a candle for my birthday. At least you are a 1.5 hours away and that you could try again if you wanted to.

Well, I think the potatoes were just gone for today.

I'm so sorry you had a lousy meal. We were not impressed by the BB, either. We were so excited to go, and although sitting on the water was fun, it was so dim, you couldn't really see much. We thought the food tasted like banquet food. Not horrible, but not very good either. Factoring in the cost, we wouldn't go back. But we were very glad we went the one time.

I really hope this isn't offensive, but if you were unhappy with your table why didn't you ask to be moved? If I had been given a wobbly table at any resteraunt I would request to move. And I don't see the big deal about people taking the extra chairs? Now not having the potatoes, that would disapoint!

None of those things on their own would bug me, just the combination. I was only really upset about the potatoes. In fact they did offer us a chance to leave after breaking the potato news, lol, but we chose to stay. Others around us left.

I'm sorry you had a disappointing BB experience.

I was wondering about a few things you mentioned. Why did you have your doubts when you were seated? Did you request waterside?

You seem bothered that the extra chairs were taken from your table. If I understand correctly, you were only 2 people, no?

After you were unhappy with your table and the location, did you request to be moved? Did you ask them to fix the wobbly table? What was the response?

To me, a HUGE part of customer service is what is done to fix a situation, so I am curious if they were given the opportunity to remedy the situation - and what they did.

Sorry they didn't have the potatoes. However, in an effort to cheer you up since you said no potatoes devastated you, were the potatoes the only reason you were eating there? I would not say JUST the potatoes are worth $70. In fact, I actually prefer the rice. :goodvibes Again, I'm sorry you were disappointed. If you had known there were no potatoes, would you have eaten elsewhere?

I didn't request waterside, didn't care about that, just never realized they had a table right in front of the restroom I'd have to ask to avoid. It's my fault because no, I didn't ask to be moved. All the tables were taken when I was there for my noon seating and it wasn't worth waiting longer as we were starving. Also I don't mind that they took the chairs save for the fact that they literally took them instead of asking if we minded, etc. I want to make it clear that I did not ask for anything so it's not entirely BB's fault, just primarily potato frustration ;)

BB used to be our favorite place to eat, but after 3 bad experiences in a row, we no longer go there!

It's just not the same as it used to be!

We are loving Cafe Orleans now!!!

Someone correct me if I am wrong but aren't they currently working on opening a newly refurbished main kitchen? Somewhere I read that this is why the desserts are not as spectacular, and maybe why the potatoes were MIA?
Not an excuse at all I believe you should love what you are paying
for at, pricey places in particular. Just thinking maybe this is why. :confused3
I personally don't care for the rice and it would of been a deal breaker for me.

The seating thing reminds me why I always opt for the earliest reservation time (so that I can be seated without a long wait and still get a waterside table). I think it was courteous of them to offer for you to leave after informing you of the potato situation (all restaurants should, but not all do). I've never had a problem with any Disney customer service, even when I'm sure I was annoying as heck adding and subtracting people all morning for my reservation at Cafe Orleans when I went after my aunt's wedding.

Funny you say that. We have a restaurant nearby that we eat at all the time. Everyone there knows us, including the owner. We love the servers and are happy with any of them. However, there are 2 tables in the restaurant that we will NOT sit at, regardless of how long we have to wait - and the hostesses have learned that about us. Where are they? Right by the restrooms. I HATE sitting there. So I totally understand.

:sad1: Sorry about the potatoes.

P.S. I have to admit though, "potato frustration" made me giggle. NOT at your experience, just reading "potato frustration."

Oh gosh, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. I LOVE BB and try to go there every trip. I do have certain tricks, though. I prefer to wait for a waterside table and almost always get one within a few minutes. I split a meal with someone (usually go with my sis or my grown dd) so the price isn't such a shock and the meal is the perfect size. We also get the ap discount. Sometimes I just do a walk-up shortly before the latest time to do so (around 8:00 last time I was there) and order dessert and coffee. When I get a dinner, we order the surf and turf (filet mignon and lobster tail) which has consistently been delicious. It's about $43 or something like that, so when split it isn't bad. We like to get into the spirit of things so we usually ask for a child's menu and wear it (it turns into a pirate hat) pirate:

I hope you get a chance to try it again and have a better experience. I have had a couple of very disappointing meals at Cafe Orleans and have never had a good time at Goofy's, so I understand what you're saying. It's kind of hard to want to go back to a place when you spend a lot of money for something that isn't very satisfying (or downright awful).

I felt the same way after my first and only meal at the BB. There wasn't anything terrible about it, but for the price I feel like for starters the food should have been much better.

I would rather pay more and have an awesome meal at the Napa Rose.

So many little things wrong, the server wasn't necessarily rude, but not particularly good either. The rolls weren't even warm, and it took a really long time to get our drinks refilled.

I would only go back if someone that has never been before in my party just HAD to, but on my own, not going to happen.

Sorry you had a bad experience! There are few things I hate more than feeling like I overspent on a mediocre (or even bad) dining experience.

I've never done BB...I considered it several times but every time I end up forgetting about it simply because after reading many reviews (mainly here on the boards) it just seems like it's hit or miss there. Plus, some people have even said they ended up with really upset stomachs after eating there, so I make it a basic rule that if I hear that more than one person has had that kind of experience at a place, I don't go there.

I know that food is a big part of the Disney experience for some people, but for us, it just isn't. I would LIKE for it to be, lol...we've just never eaten anything in the parks that we thought was all that fantastic. I guess it's a good thing though, since it saves us money.

I hope you find a restaurant at DLR that you end up loving!

Thank you for sharing your disappointing BB experience.

We live in Australia so don't get to DLR as often as we would like to. We are going to be there in September so I have been toying with the thought of booking at the BB for a lunch or dinner for the 5 of us.

However after reading very mixed reviews about it I am not sure that we will bother. I really don't want to be disappointed in the experience. I would rather go without (a bit like a fantasy or dream never quite living up to the thought, I guess :))

This is why I eat at DTD. Park food, unless you are at Club 33, is not very good. House of Blues, Catal or Jazz Kitchen are better food for the same price or less depending on what you order.
