Wow!! Alpha Centauri Expeditions (A.C.E.) Founder Marshall Lamm joined filmmaker James Cameron and Imagineer Joe Rohde at the D23 event this morning to share details on upcoming travel to Pandora – The World of Avatar.

Here is a first look at the Shaman of Songs, a revered member of the Na’vi people of Pandora:

If that is an AA and not CG I'm doubly excited to see how this turns out. Couple that with the setup similar to Pirates in Shanghai this could be a great experience.

That is an amazing animatronic indeed. It's the most realistic figure they've ever made. I have to admit that I'm certainly concerned about the maintenance of those AAs. In some recent videos it looks like the Elsa animatronic has been having some issues and is not fully working, so I'm afraid the same will happen to Avatar's.

Well this has been worked on for much longer than the Elsa AA, and it won't have a projected face. I don't think Cameron is going to let this be disfunctional.

I'm concerned about the maintenance on these entire lands.. How are they going to keep those mountains looking good without covering them with scaffolding every few years???

Good question but I'm sure they thought about that before building them.

I feel like if we want these completely amazing things, we have to expect the maintenance that has to go along with them. I mean, most of you guys know that magic is my favorite, but this stuff doesn't maintain itself (as much as I'd like it to!!). :upsidedow

Oh for sure, I'm just curious how that will happen. That said, have they ever refurbished the exterior of Everest?

I have made 5 WDW trips in the last 8 years and the monster in Everest has never worked. You would think that could be fixed first.

That is the thing... they'll keep it working for a few years. But if these other movies don't caputure the attention of audiences like the original, and if Avata Land doesn't increase attendance and keep people in AK all day. These will be like most other AA that start to fail. A big part of Alien Encounter was that first "encounter" with S.I.R. But he started to lose functionality, and it sure seemed like Disney didn't care... Even when the attraction was still a long wait.

It's too bad no one really gives a rats a about Pandora, and highly doubt many will make special trips to see.

I have a feeling that this particular AA will be the only one found in Pandora that has been created with this level of detail and overall movement. If this is a part of the centerpiece for this raft ride I will be perfectly fine with that. I showed this to a couple people last night and they thought it was a person in costume. They couldn't believe that it was an animatronic.

I know that Bob Chapek at some point during the event likened the technology in this ride to what has been used in the Shanghai Pirates ride. My take on that statement is that we shouldn't expect to see it on such a grand scale in terms of overall ride length. This will probably have less AAs and a shorter ride circuit. However, for me, that will simply make it a more intimate experience. I don't need every single ride to be designed to epic proportions for me to enjoy it. I look at this expansion in its entirety and just can't wait for it to open next year.

Agreed 1000%

This AA truly is jaw-dropping. I had a feeling Disney would deliver on the imagineering side, and it looks like they have!

My 2 cents, I would rather have a handful of amazing effects/AAs than an entire land that is *good*, but nothing special (New Fantasyland, anyone?). I bet if this AA can stay operational, we'll see more of this and less of the projection-screen faces. Now that Dis has proven it CAN be done, you know they're already working on a way it can be done cheaper and on a bigger scale!
