Has anyone done the first hair cut experience at the Main Street barber? Is it worth it and how long does it last?

We did it for my daughter. The first haircut package priced at $25 if my memory was correct. It depends on how you look at it to determine if it worth it. My daughter had only a few inches trimmed off, not a fancy haircut by any means. We probably could get the same haircut done for $10 back here. However, the attention she got totally worth it! They provided her a toy while cutting her hair, spray some pixie dust afterward, turn her around let her see her new hair style, saved her first curl into a mesh bag, presented her the certificate of first haircut. We liked it so much, will totally do it for my younger daughter in our future trip.

We did it for my son shortly after he turned 1 (a year ago.)

It was a cute experience and did not take long at all. He got a cute little certificate and first haircut Mickey ears. They put my 2 year old daughter up in the chair and pixie dusted her hair to make her feel special too. My husband got his hair cut by the same stylist and I think start to finish for both cuts we were there 30 mins or so.

I thought it was very inexpensive for a Disney experience. I am happy we did it.

My two grand-daughters did this last year at the age of 1 - they hardly got much hair taken off, but enough for it to be put into a baggie that they give you to keep. It was cute - the barber was very clever when keeping them from crying (the same guy did them both). We have great pics! They got Mickey Ears and a certificate. I would recommend this. It wasn't long at all. We did it about 2 pm, before our CP dinner reservation.

We've done it for all 4 of our boys, and I love it! In fact, we get the boys haircuts here almost every trip - for a while our kids thought you had to go to Disney for a haircut! If you have an appointment it doesn't take long at all, they get to you pretty fast after you check in if you are a few minutes before your appointment time. Your child can sit on the riser they have that fits over the chair, and you can sit right in front of the if they are small and could fall. They also can have you hold them if they cooperate better that way. It doesn't take long for a haircut if it is a first cut for a young child, and they are used to working with kids who can be fussy.

The only difference between a first haircut and a child's haircut is you get a first haircut certificate and a Mickey Hat that has first haircut embroidered on it, and the price is $25 instead of $19 (not completely sure about the prices). I think it's well worth it, but that can be subjective I'm sure. They also make a point of setting up a picture where the kid has the hat on and is looking in a mirror, and taken from behind you see the first haircut on the hat, and the child's face in the mirror. It's cute, but can be hard to get perfect.

A tip I didn't learn until our most recent first haircut experience is that when you check in you can ask if there is a photopass person available, and if there is a roaming one they will come over and do PP pictures of your child's first haircut. They were able to do that for us last time, so we got photos of our twins' first haircuts and our older boys haircuts as well. She took a ton of photos, and was super nice.

Another tip is to be careful around parade times, it can be very difficult to get there if any parade - including the Move it Shake It one - is going on. If you get stuck and are late they then treat you as a walk in and you have to wait- ask me how I know :D. There is a door from the Emporium right near it that you can often pop out of and get there, though.

I've been considering doing this for my dd. She will be 4 when we go but has never had a haircut. Is it still worth it at that age or is it geared more towards toddlers? I just think it would be a fun memory for her to have her first haircut there, but can't decide. I'm inside my 180 days so I should call soon if I'm going to. We are doing BBB on our first MK day, but could do the cut on our last day.

Thank you for the explanation. I definitely want to do it. Do you remember how long it lasted? I want to make sure I schedule it for the right time.

We did it for youngest ds. They gave him a little light up toy to play with. We made an appt. I want to say it only took 10-15 minutes.

I've done this for all three of my kiddos. It is the best deal at WDW in my opinion.

The actual haircut only take about 10-15 min., but you may have to wait even if you have an appointment. I would allot an hour or so of time for this. The Barbershop is super small. The people who work there are great with little ones. My son just got his first haircut last July. He has had one more at home at our local salon since then. He did so much better with the first one at Disney. Your child will get first haircut ears and a certificate. They will save a lock of hair for you.

I wanted to do it for DGS.....but he has a lot of hair!
We go Saturday. He is 19 months old and has already had 3 haircuts, so we didn't make it

It is a great experience though

That won't be a problem, they won't care at all - I would definitely do it! I think it would be fun for her, not sure if the hat would fit a 4 yo or not but that wouldn't matter, its more for the memory and keepsake anyway.

I just called yesterday day and got 4 spots for child's haircuts on December 28th, so I would think you have a great shot at getting a reservation if you call. You can cancel up to the day before.

I booked for my 2 yo DS in dec. hes never had a haircut.. and I cannot wait for him to get it in Disney!! we booked it for 120 so that way when we finish we can go right outside maybe squeeze in a Mickey visit if there are any FP available and catch the parade!!!

We did it with my youngest. I thought it was worth it. It didn't cost any more than a first hair cut at home. It was around 30 minutes I think? My daughter was 3.5 when we did it.

Absolutely worth it. ~$25. Embroidered ear hat, first hair cut hair neatly secured in a bag, certificate. Excellent staff. Priceless photos.

Totally worth it in my opinion. My daughter was turning 5 when we did it. She never had a haircut before that. We didn’t do BBB as she didn’t have very long hair then. We did first haircut and head to fireworks dessert party for her birthday. It was her highlight of the trip!

The haircut only took about 15 minutes, however, as other people mentioned, it was a small barber shop, only has 2-3 chairs. So you might have too wait a little bit, even if you already have an appointment.
