We're leaving on 10/19 for 9 wonderful days at WDW. It's been almost a year and a half since we "went home". My wife and I have been there numerous times and it will be my 4 year olds 3rd trip (hope he realizes how lucky he is). This trip will be the first for our 15 month old son and we plan to get his first haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street in MK. We planned this for our 4 year old in October 2001, but cancelled the trip after 9/11. Although not his first haircut, we also hope to give him the thrill of a Disney pampering.

Has anyone done the first haircut experience at WDW? Can you offer any tips or advice about it? What are the best imes to go? How long was the wait, etc??

Thanks for the help!

The best time to go I've found is right as they open at 9am. Otherwise you're looking at quite a bit of waiting time.

Tell them that's it's baby's first haircut and they'll make a really big production out of it. Very very nice.

PS: don't forget to tip!

We did my daughter's first haircut there last fall. We had about 6 people ahead of us and waited about 30-40 minutes. If I remember correctly it was about 10:30 am. The wait was not bad because all of the characters walked past there to sign autographs at the entrance. It was one of the best things we have done in the past 10 years. They put Mickey stickers all over her to keep her occupied. She never even moved while they cut her hair.

They saved some hair for us, gave her a certificate, and gave her Mickey ears that said "First Haircut" on the back. Our older daughter got sprinkled with pixiedust but only knew that tinkerbell flew in quickly and got her. It was a wonderful experience. On top of all that; it was a great haircut that completely fit her.

I might be planning a trip in Nov. My son will be 14 months.. How much is the haircut?

It was either $12 or $14 for the whole package of ears, etc. It is the best deal you can find.

child haircut - $14
adult haircut - $17

this includes color and pixie dust if so desired. They have green, blue, yellow, red, and glow in the dark colorings.

The Barber shop quartet performs in the barber shop, I think it is at noon. We got DS's haircut 2 Sundays ago. We waited an hour.
He ended up with orange gel and lots of pixie dust. This was his 4th haircut there.

So this is a first-come, first-served situation? I don't need to make reservations? (LOL, my planning type A personality doesn't like this!!!) Also, it is okay for girls? We would love to have our 18 mo have her first in December.....where is this place in MK?

Thanks!

Yes, first come, first served. And wonderful for girls!! My dd, now 11, has had her last two back to school haircuts done by Michael at the barbershop. She loves it. ANd it's cheaper than her hairdresser at home. I give Michael $20 and we're done. Be sure to have your camera handy.
It is located off to the left as you enter the MK. Over by the fire station area. Go to the left of the 'rotary/circle' on the start of Main St. It's kinda tucked in way towards the back.

Definately go! We just did it! Oldest DD (5) and little DD (17 months). Little DD is totally shy, and doesn't like strangers, didn't want to sit in the chair, but when they started putting stickers all over her, blowing bubbles, giving her light chasers to play with, and I gave her fruit snacks (a special treat in our house) she sat like a big girl through the whole production, but the look on her face is priceless (I'll see if I can find a way to put it on here) she wasn't smiling, but was fine with her fruit snacks! Oldest DD had never had a haircut at 5 years old, and had beautiful hair down her back, she had it cut in a short bob, with the whole first haircut production, and her hair is on it's way to lock of love for wigs to be made for children who need them! The Mainstreet Barber shop is wonderful, they treated our girls like princesses, and made our day!

Thanks for the info. I was expecting it to be more than $14. Here in Long Island, it's $20 and up for a kid's haircut.

Here is a pic of DD 17 months getting some magic done on her locks at the Harmony Barber Shop. Big DD 5 had hers done too, but I am searching for guidelines on how many/what size pics can be in my post. I saw the guidelines for signature pics, but it said it did not apply to pics in messages? Anybody know the answer?

That picture is totally gorgeous! Your DD doesn't look very impressed but I certainly am. Is it possible to have all the magic stuff without actually having any hair cut? My DD is very attached to her long hair.
Much pixie dust,
Claire

Yes, you could just ask for color and pixie dust. Just give them a little tip. They won't charge you the full price.

We did this when only one of our DS needed a haircut and the other one didn't but wanted color and pixie dust as well.

This is a tradition for us. We love doing it, the kids enjoy it, and the characters and CM really notice them.

She looks so much like my dd who is 22 months. They could be twins except different colored eyes. My daughter is shy also but once she warms up she is crazy.
