First FW visit; loop recommendation and a dining question

We booked our first FW visit for Dec 2011. We are not newbies to WDW so we have tried Boma, 1900 Park Fare, and some other Disney restaurants. My question is we will be driving 8 hours on the day we arrive at the Fort and are considering Trail's End for dinner that night. We have not eaten at the TE before, and I would like to know if the more seasoned veterans here would recommend it or go to another sit down DDP restaurant. While I am talking about it, what loop would you recommend in the full hook up block too.

Agree with Carol - and after the meal we had at Narcoosee's last month I can HIGHLY recommend that particular restaurant. We ate out a bunch over 3 weeks and that was one of the best meals we had!!

(more on that if I ever get the darned TR finished... ok, started!!)

If you like sushi and don't want to worry about an ADR, the Kona Sushi Bar at the Poly is usually easy to get a seat at and the sushi is some of the best on Disney property. Plus you can also order off the full Kona Cafe menu. Just 2 things... it's a sushi "bar" so no real tables. You either sit at the bar itself, or the counter along the windows. Also I don't believe you can use DDP credits for the sushi.

I agree - don't waste table credits on TE.

Giddy Up and Go is really good if you want to get take-out.

Whispering Canyon cafe at the Wilderness Lodge might be a good option for dining out.

OK, I am still one of the last hold outs for TE. Yes, it is not probably not worth a dining credit that could be spent better elsewhere, but it is convenient.

But, like you, many times we arrive after lunch and after eating a sandwich while driving, then setting up camp upon arrival and cleaning up, we usually hit TE for an early dinner (They start serving dinner at 4:30). Then we head over to MK for the evening. Also, as someone else advised, the Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL is good also. We usually eat there once during our stay.

I have never and probably will never do the dining plan. I think it's such a money ripoff. Having said that, I think Whispering Canyon, the Giddy Up and Go, and Trail's End are good options for your first day.
