First FW Trip & Trip Report

This trip report is really getting me fired up to go.

We are headed to the fort for two weeks starting 10/24 - my cousin is meeting us there for a day at the fort on 10/26 and my mom is comming for her first visit ever to WDW on 10/29 to 11/3 - I cant wait to show it to her.

Thanks so much for sharing all the details of your experience!

Let's try this again.

Shortly after Y&R, we headed back to MK with Grammy in tow.

I let the kids decide what were "musts" for Grammy to do. Buzz was first on their list.

As soon as we left Buzz, we ran into:

100_0871.jpg

Gretchen just loves Stitch!

I may or may not get through this. I don't know if it's my computer or me, but it's about to cause me to smoke

Since we had just run into Stitch, we went straight to his attraction. Mom thought that was the funniest thing; it was right up her alley. We kind of took the same route that we had taken earlier in the day when it was just the kids and me at MK. We breezed through the fair section. Pooh and Snow White had too long a wait line so we hit Fantasyland. Mickey's Philharmagic was the first stop. It was after this attraction that Mom said how wonderful she thought WDW was and that she had misjudged it all these years. Then we got on It's a Small World. Everybody should be tortured a little while on vacation right?

Peter Pan's line was too long so off to the Haunted Mansion. Gretchen was so worried that Grammy was going to be frightened. Isn't she sweet? Gretchen still keeps her head buried in my armpit on this ride. I really wanted Mom to see The Hall of President's despite the current president.

As we were approaching, a CM calls out this was the last showing. We rushed to get in and the CM tells us scooter seating is on the back row. The kids and I go in front of Mom and I the next thing I know, I hear a very loud sound. It was kind of dark so I turned around asked my Mom what happened. She says, "I ran over the chair." Then I realized her back scooter wheel is cocked up on the leg of the chair. It's a good thing those legs are bolted to the ground! So I whisper, "Put it in reverse." She says, "It won't start." I ask, "Did you turn it off?" She says, "It shut off when I ran over this chair." By now we are hysterically laughing. She is literally cocked sideways. In fact, I found myself turning my head sideways as I was talking to her. Then I tried to push the scooter off the leg of the chair while she was still in it. She says, "That's not gonna work Liv."

I was afraid we were going to get kicked out. The kids finally walked off and sat 2 aisles in front of us. I asked, "Should I call the scooter guy?" She says, "Just sit down for now." I go a couple of seats over because I knew if I was anywhere near her and I had to see her watch this show cocked up in the air, I was not going to make it. I sat down and when I put my stuff on the ground, I noticed a Q-tip on the ground. I got tickled again. I start imagining someone cleaning their ears while this show is going on. No, no, no, it's not that. It's that someone had a Q-tip in each ear to keep from listening to the current potentate do his spill. That's it. My body is shaking I am laughing so hard and I can hear my mom laughing too. If I weren't such a germaphobe, I would have picked up that Q-tip, broke it in half and put each end in my ears. I could not stop laughing!

Finally the program was over and the lights came on. I got my cell phone out to call Mr. Scooter and about that time, the scooter starts right up and drives off the leg of the chair. I guess you had to be there to get the full effect, but it just about wore me out!

Finally got a funnel cake.
100_0877.jpg

We watched Wishes and I cried, as usual. All my Mom kept saying was "WOW!" over and over.

I have never captured a good picture of the fireworks or the castle at night.
100_0881.jpg

We waited for the crowds to thin out a little before leaving. We specifically planned MK on the night we would watch the EWP, but by the time we got back to the Fort, we were all exhausted. Even the kids were ready to just hit the sack.

You know, every once in a great, great while I hop on over to the camping forum. It reminds me of when I was a little girl, we never went to DW, but travelled across country by trailor. Anyway, I'm SO glad I happened upon your report, you are so funny!! And I could just picture your poor Mom and you laughing your heads off:rotfl:. I'm so enjoying this! Keep it coming.:thumbsup2

I love your commentary! :thumbsup2 I also lmao about the Q-tip incident. :rotfl2: We have not had the "honor(?)" of seeing the updated Hall of Presidents with the new White House resident added. Might choose to skip it since we've seen the other versions. Maybe when we visit in 2013?

I LOVE the Hall of Presidents. I just wonder who made the decision to place Bill Clinton next to Tricky Dick. :rolleyes1

Girl you are seriously cracking me up! :rotfl2: The incident during the Hall of Presidents sounds like a moment my BFF and I would have, minus the scooter.

Now continue.........

I think I'm all caught up now...been sick! UG!! But, mostly better now, and life goes on, right? :) Enjoyed the scooter incident...that was hilarious!!

OK Liv, time to get back to this report. Your family will have to do without so we have something to read.

So sorry to keep ya'll waiting...it's been crazier than usual around here.

This was our last park day so we went to Hollywood Studios. Here we are leaving out for the bus stop.

100_0888.jpg

Mom wasn't quite ready to leave but insisted on us going on and she would meet up with us later. My Dad was coming in this afternoon so we were not going to have all day to spend at the park. We had just arrived at HS when my cell phone rang and she was getting on the bus. That was quick for her!! I had already told Gage to choose TOT or RRC for me to ride because I wasn't riding both of them. I have severe motion issues and it doesn't take much for me to..well, we'll just say "get sick." Thankfully he chose RRC because I REALLY don't like TOT. I sent him on to ride TOT while Gretchen and I looked at pins and waited on Mom. By the time he was off, Grammy had arrived and we rode RRC.

100_0889.jpg

We did a lot of window shopping at HS. Grammy tried to buy everyone in her county a Mickey ears hat, but I put my foot down with her. Another one of her "quirks" is she just loves to spend money. However, she is notorious for buying gifts and then not giving the gift to the people she buys it for. She probably has 10-15 wedding gifts for people that have already been divorced and remarried. I AM NOT KIDDING!!!!! I told her on this last trip to her house that when we get our camper, I am not buying a thing. I am just going to come to her house to stock it.

It was already time to eat lunch and this was the only meal we bought at the parks the whole week. We ate at the ABC Commissary. It was disgusting and I was sad that this was the only Disney food experience my Mom got, with the exception of ice cream and funnel cake. Not to mention we had a testy CM cleaning the tables. I 'bout had to break redneck on him too, but he settled down when I got smart (in a sweet way of course:littleangel:). Then we decided to leave...with half of our food untouched because it was not edible. Bye-bye $35.:sad1:

Next up was the Walt Disney tour.
100_0905.jpg

I always have to go through this. It makes me feel like I really know Mr. Walt when I leave. I like to quote things that I've learned about him to my family (like they were not there) when we get back to TN. I know...I need medication.

About this time, my Dad calls to tell us he is at the camper. Also, it looks like a storm was coming so Grammy headed back to the camper and left us on our own.

Next, we went through the Narnia attraction. We had never seen that. It was nice. We circled around and did Star Tours and the Muppet 3-D show. We so badly wanted to ride TSM, but it had an 80 minute wait.
100_0909.jpg

The kids were really wanting to get back to see Papa and ride the bikes, but not before riding RRC 2 more times. Gretchen rode with Gage the first time. They were jammin' when they got off.
100_0895.jpg

Gretchen and I just waited on Gage the last time and a nice guy offered to take our picture.
100_0916.jpg

After grabbing some chocolate and caramel covered popcorn, we were off to FW. (The popcorn was not all that great to us. The 3 of us decided we like $2 Crunch and Munch much better.)

Here are some of the pictures we took while Papa and Grammy were grilling steaks for us. I only transferred (I know the word is probably uploaded or downloaded, but you're dealing with a redneck here:)) 100 pictures from my Kodak Easy Share Software to Photobucket. (Believe me when I say it was a miracle that I was even able to do that!) I might have to transfer more because I am noticing there are a lot of pictures I should have posted.

I can't remember if it was this night or the next night, but at one time, we counted 15 deer. It was a little eery...they were all over the place. We see deer all the time where we live, but never more than a couple at a time.

In honor of THE GREAT TCD:

This is old news by now, but while we were there, Loop 2000 was closed. Here is a picture of one of the sites.

I love your TR! Thanks for all the great pics. I think it's great that you went with your Mom and did your own thing. I wish I could get my parents to go with us to WDW. I think we would all have a great time (like your family is!). But so far, they have no interest.:sad2:

Don't give up! It took us years to save for our first vacation and when we decided to go to WDW, my parents thought we were crazy! We were blessed enough to go back the following two years as well and by then, my parents thought we were down right insane. When they got their camper last January, I mentioned we would like to camp at FW and would pay their way if they wanted to come with us. I went ahead and made reservations really thinking they would not go. For whatever reason, my Mom decided she would go and my Dad just came a few days. By the end of the trip, my Mom decided the next trip should be 2 weeks and my Dad agreed! I would have never in a million years thought they would even agree to go, let alone go and want to go back!

Liv - I don't know how I missed this report. It's great!!! I received your PM, and no, we have a Class A - not a Class C and I think we left the day you arrived. We were there 9/17 to 9/20.

Your family is absolutely adorable, and so are you! I understand about the "scooter profiling" thing with your mom. My DH has arthritis in his knees and we have a handicapped parking permit. Sometimes we get very ugly looks when we use it. I've offered to rent him a scooter or wheelchair at the parks, but he'll have none of it. I guess when the day comes that the pain is more than he can tolerate, he'll get one.

I am so glad you & your parents enjoyed the Fort! Yeah...us "older women" can be a pain sometimes, but just wait!! You'll one day be that "pain" to your daughter - so you can get even! (LOL)

We took my mom to FtW for her 72nd birthday back in 1994 and I will never regret doing that. She'd never been to the Fort and could not understand why we were so nutty about it. Just the drive from the outpost to our cabin was enough to convince her what all the hoopla was about! Imagine how overwhelmed she was when we rented a GC and took her around the Fort, took the boat to CR & the monorail to resort hop (she loved the GF) and that was the first day. She hadn't even been into a park yet!! She only wanted to go to Epcot so we did that on day 2 & I pushed her around in a wheelchair. She was so "awed" by everything there. It was a good weekend and I'm so glad we did that because she passed away the next year.

We never got the chance to take my dad - who would have LOVED FtW, because he passed away when I was 26 - and he was only 61. He'd been in poor health since his early 50's and back in those days we were very "primative" Fort Fiends due to being young and not making much $$$, and dad couldn't have physically tolerated our camping set up.

So - don't regret taking your mom - quirks and all. I'd give anything to have been able to camp with my folks at FtW.

And BTW....we WILL catch up with you at FtW one of these days!!

Sounds like a threat to me.

Yeah it does Jim, and she's making me feel bad for her so when she get's too old I'll probably have to take her to the fort with us and I'll be stuck with that dumb otter. This may be my in to the oh, sorry Debbie, I haven't seen Wynotta, she must've run away. Meanwhile the otter will be in a pond far away.

Just kidding Debbie, you and Rick can be my PITA when you get old. Wait, you're already old. Does that mean I have to start taking you now?
