First FW Trip & Trip Report

Good luck on the site in January. I stayed in 1100 loop MLK Weekend and the fort was pretty busy. This of course was before the reno's making it Premium. Glad I helped with your decision. I always say if you give me the GF or a site at the fort I'd pick the fort. You can't drive a golf cart and drink beer at the GF lol.

Really enjoying your TR and your pics are terrific! :goodvibes

Isn't it awsesome when yer young'ns get pick fer participation, :thumbsup2 and your do'n very well on your report.

popcorn:: you did say you had 300 pictures , right ? popcorn::

This was Magic Kingdom day and I get all teary eyed just thinking about it. Like most people, MK is my my favorite park. I really believe if I visited that park a million times in my life, I would still get that same overwhelming sense of happiness I get every time I enter Main Street. That probably sounds cheesy, but I just love that place! Sadly, I don't have a lot of pictures from this day because I had to recharge the batteries in my camera for most of the day.

Mom stayed at FW while the kids and I headed over. There were just a few of us on the boat, so the kids got to sit up front.

We would normally head straight to Space Mountain, as that is Gretchen's favorite ride, but since it was closed, we went to Buzz Lighyear's Space Ranger Spin. We shared some icecream and walked through Tomorrowland, Toontown Fair, and Fantasyland. Ther were some great opportunities for pics, but had no camera with me!:headache: We then rode The Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain and looked through some shops. I HAD to get a Dole Whip (or whatever they're called) because I've heard so many good things about this treat and they are closed when we visit in the winter. But since it had not been too long since we had icecream, we decided to hit Big Thunder Mountain Railroad first. That ride had the longest wait time of any other ride we had ridden so far, but it was just 20 minutes, so we waited. Sure enough in 20 minutes we were "on". We're going along just fine when we get to the very tip top of the mountain and it stops. We joked that several of the rides that we had been on had momentarily stopped and we were beginning to wonder if it was us? We also joked of all times for me NOT to have my camera. (I even thought I might could show TCD up with some pics from where we were!) It was fun for a few minutes, but the angle we were in was not a great position. After what seemed like forever, though I'm sure it was less than 10-15 minutes, a CM climbed up to us and announced that the ride had closed and we were going to be escorted off. He was very nice until he sternly told us NO CAMERAS OR VIDEOS!:scared: Immediately some kids took out their cameras and began taking pictures. He very sternly told them that he would take their cameras away! (I don't know why, but for some reason, I was reminded of TCD again.:rolleyes1:rotfl:) The trek was not overly interesting other than being able to say that we got to see behind, around, over, and under the attraction.

By then, I really needed that Dole thingy so that was our next stop. Well, good time of day, we could have shared one because of it's size and the fact that we had just had some icecream, but I wanted my own! It was great, but the sugar overload had made me nauseous. It was lunch time anyway, so we headed back to the camper for lunch and to pick up Grammy. I don't think I have mentioned yet that one of the reasons my Mom did not go with us to the parks in the morning is because she is addicted to the Young and the Restless. So while my schedule had revolved around ADR's the last 3 trips, this year, it revolved aound Y&R!

I'll be back for a continuation of this day. It involves the funniest moment of the trip, though it's one of those "you had to be there" to get the full effect...or is it affect. I always get confused with those two words.

Wonderful trip report! Looking forward to more. popcorn:: MK and Epcot were the only parks around the last time I went.

If you don't mind my asking... What main city are you near in TN and how long did it take to drive to Orlando (in total)? I am always curious about it... I know how long it takes from here to get to TN but I'm not sure how long it takes to get from there to FL. We are going to be driving down in March, so I'm collecting all the info I can :surfweb: . Thanks.

A couple of random thoughts:

1. I definitely would have taken pictures when BTMRR broke down. We got stuck in a boat on Pirates of the Caribbean once, and they had to turn on the lights to get everyone out. The castmembers about wore themselves out telling us not to take photos. Really? Like what are they going to do about it? Luckily for everyone (especially me, probably), I didn't have my camera with me for some reason, and I didn't get any photos. But that was a time that reminded me that I must always have my camera at the ready.

2. I know Grammy is your mom and everything, but I would leave her at home next time. No offense, but Grammy already made you late for AK and then you have to work your schedule around her soaps? You know, the thought has never crossed my mind to take my mom camping with me. And, now I am glad I have never thought of that. Grammy, if you are reading this, I apologize, but come on!

I would give up every visit I have ever had to Disney or will ever have, to have my daughter spend one more day with her grammy...:littleangel:

I took my mom and grandmother back in June and it was a great experience. My GM is 80 and when we got to the parks I grabbed a wheelchair and pushed her around. She could've walked but the chair made it easier and faster. It was definately a trip my daughter will remember forever.

As my DD's would say: "But I said, no offense . . ."

OK, I guess my comments about Grammy were harsh, so I apologize. And Big Kahuna, thank you for reminding me that it is a blessing to still have my parents (and my DW's parents) around and healthy. Shame on me.

But, I still think Olivia deserves a medal for putting up with Grammy!

TCD ... I knew there was no animosity in your heart... You've proven that time and time again on these boards.... BUT if I got one person to pick up the phone and tell mom or dad that they love them and/ or to say thanks.. then I did my good deed for today.

My first trip to Disney was because of my parents, and I was an October of 71 visitor, part of the great unwashed masses. My brother keeps that memory alive by going every Thanksgiving to Disney. Because of work, we go in the summer.

For all of you who love Disney because of past trips with your parents... Call and thank them....;)

My parents took me and my sister for the first time in 1979 and till this day my parents have been there on every trip. My Grandma started going with us in the 90's and has made every trip sence and will be on the next one she is 89. I will never forget the first time she went she was in her 70's and rode Space Moutain. Well you know how the cars take off slow take you around the corner and stop well she was going weeeeee. Then we took off and she never made another sound we will never forget it. Now my parents take there trailer with grandma and me and the DW take ours Disney has become a family tradition. My sister and her family are DVC my sister was never much of a camper.

Sure wish I could.

And for those of you who still are blessed enough to have your folks, enjoy every moment cause the time goes by SO fast. And when they are gone, ouch, such a huge hole is created.

Liv Luvs Disney, I think it's GREAT having your mom go. My dad had to use a scooter for years, Who cares, at least he was there. I think it's great that she stays at the site and does her thing while you guys go do your thing and no one is complaining about having to do something they don't want to. Looks like ALL of you had a great time together and that's what it's all about. :thumbsup2

Great report, keep it coming.

My first trip to WDW was when I was 24 and stationed in Georgia with the Army. My parents would never take me to WDW, mainly because my mom always said "I don't know why anybody would ever want to go to Florida. There's nothing to see down there." She also had bad things to say about people with TT's "Who would want to go on vacation cooped up in one of those things cooking their meals? Not my idea of a vacation." So I took my kids to WDW every year and camped in the trailer and had a great time in the lovely state of Florida. I leave my mom at home.

Heck, I didn't mean to get everybody all riled up.:rotfl2: I'll be 36 in a couple of weeks and one thing I know for sure about my Mama, I ain't gonna change her...ever. We all have to take the bad with the good. I knew going into this trip that our schedule would revolve around her or I wouldn't have invited her. She loves to camp, but has always been very negative about WDW. In fact, she didn't want to go to the parks, but the kids begged her relentlessly. We went back and forth over how many days to get on her tickets and finally decided that if she just went and "scootered" through each park and came back to the camper, she could at least say that she went. She has a long list of ailments with RA being her biggest problem, so we never know from one day to the next what her physical state will be. Going for a few hours in the afternoon must have worked well for her because she did way better than I expected her to! And to boot, she loved it! She wants to go back and stay 2 weeks next time. Her plan of action is to go to each park 2 days in a row and rest 1 day in between. I'll be on that trip too!

On a side note, my biological father was a less than stellar father. My parents divorced when I was 3 and I didn't see my father much as a child. I vividly remember sitting for days on the front porch waiting for him to come pick my brother and me up for our "weekend visit." He rarely showed. In fact, he rarely did anything he told me he would do. The few memories I have of him involve women, drugs, and alcohol. To make a very long story short, he died 4 years ago after open heart surgery. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks and I stayed every minute the hospital would let me. During that time, I had my third miscarriage in a 12 month period so it was a very difficult time for me. My family could not understand why I was so compassionate towards him. I knew he was not going to make it, and I didn't want to have any regrets.

I began to hemmorhage the night after he died and nearly died myself. While in the hospital, I begged and pleaded for my doctor to let me go to my father's funeral. He finally allowed me to be out for a couple of hours and I was able to say bye to my father. He was a Vietnam Vet, which was one of only a few good things he did in his life. But at the end of our relationship, I was proud of him and I was at peace.

Now if someone will get me a tissue, I'll get on with my trip report.

(Anytime you hear to me refer to my Dad on this TR, I'm actually talking about my step-dad, who means the world to me. He has treated me like his own since he and my Mom married 25 years ago.)

No need to apologize, I took no offense. If you knew my Mom like I do, you would think I deserved more than a medal for putting up with her!:rotfl2: But then, what would she get for putting up with me? Hmmm:idea: All of us have quirks that may not bother us, but drive others crazy!!

Liv, you are a much better person than I, and I mean that sincerely.

I just spent the last hour and a half concluding day 4 and poof, it's gone. I'm so ticked right now. I'll have to finish later this evening; I have neglected my kids all afternoon.

Thanks Jim, but I promise I'm not a better person than you. I am evil through and through. Just ask my husband.;)
