Hi there!

I am planning my second trip to wdw ( the first when I was a child so it doesn't count) with my family.

I have been researching like a mad women, bought tons of books and have been seriously considering buying dvc points.

I was hoping some of you experts out there could give me some pointers on the best way to go about this.

Thanks so much !!!

Are you planning on purchasing a contract for points (meaning you get them every year and you own them - real estate process) or are you planning on "renting points" (meaning paying a member to make a reservation with their points for your and paying them for the reservation)?

There are a bunch of threads on the Rent/Trade Board (you must be logged in to access that board) at the top of the board that give you hints on how to set up a "rental".

If you have never taken the family to WDW before, you might want to reconsider "renting points". Usually there is no cancellation offered and most members want full payment or nearly full payment to make the reservation. Some will not accept a credit card. So if you pay the member for the reservation and something happens so that you cannot go at that time, you probably have lost the money you paid the member.

You can't use points at Value Resorts (the highly themed Disney resorts that younger kids usually love). The Value resorts also have large food courts that DVC resorts don't usually have. It's not cost effective to make a reservation with DVC points at anything but DVC resorts. Most members book their stays 11 months out at their home resort or at seven months out at a non-home resort. So you need to "rent points" at least a year out if you want the busier times. And DVC busy times don't always match up to WDW busy times. DVC resorts are meant to be 95% occupied at al times

Good luck with your decision.

Thank you so much for the reply !
Your tips are valuable. I was hoping that perhaps renting DVD points would save us money on our stay however your pointers are right in the money for a first time family trip.
Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

You're very welcome. Please come back with more questions if you have any.
