First ever cruise...I know nothing

Once onboard, how do you get into your room?

When do you get a key? On board and never was given a key
We've always been given our room card (key) at check in. But, I'm not sure it's that way now. I believe I've read that it's in the fish holder at your room.

Unless it has changed in the last month, there will be an envelope with your cards in the holder next to your stateroom door. These will be available with the staterooms are open for guests to access.

To OP:
Yes, you do share a table during your dinner but you are really only sharing with one family. My family of 4 was seated with the same family of 3 each night. It was no big deal and we looked forward to seeing them as the cruise went on. Breakfast and lunch are open seating and we rarely shared a table for those meals.

I also would not worry about seating times. You very quickly get on "cruise time". 8p in a cruise ship is not like 8p after a long day at work. It just becomes the time you eat. Also, if you really think you'll get hungry before then (or after if you have the earlier seating), there are plenty of places you can grab a snack any time you like. Nobody goes hungry on a cruise ship!

Relax, enjoy the journey - and tip your servers well.
