First DW trip!

We are planning our first DW vacation in June. There are 7 of us- my husband and myself and 5 children ages 2,5,7,9 and 11. We are interested in renting a time share villa/house so that we can have a kitchen to use and pool. It was suggested to me to check here on these boards for something like that. Can somebody explain to me what exactly are points and how do I investigsate renting these points?

as DVC members, we each have a specific # of points that we get each year (we own 210). for different sized rooms, there is a point value. for instance, you could get a 2 bedroom which would be a king bed and jacuzzi tub in the master br and 2 queen beds in the 2nd bedroom. weekend (fri & sat) nights require way more points than staying sun-thurs. and different seasons require more/less points.
June 1-10 is a different season than June 11-30
at OLD KEY WEST
jun 1-10 for 2BR sun-thurs == 27 points/night and 64 points/night for fri & sat
jun 11-30 == 30 points nightly for sun-thurs and 73 for fri & sat.

at SARATOGA SPRINGS RESORT
jun 1-10> 31 sun-thurs/65 fri & sat
jun 11-30> 36sun-thurs/68 fri & sat

points usually sell for $10-12 per point, so $270 or $310 per night at OKW or SSR to give you two examples if you got the pts for $10.

you can go to disney's website and see the different disney vacation club resorts and compare what you would pay in cash and you can look at each of the different resorts to help you decide where you want to stay.

Thanks- now I understand. It seems with all of my kids we will have to spend alot of money to stay on-site. It might be better, since we will be renting a car anyway to stay at a villa off-site.
