HI! I've had to cancel our first DVC reservation in less than 30 days (for OCT 18-21)so now I have 100 points and 68 holding points in 2011 and they expire November 28. We cannot travel during that time. Is there anything I can do with them?
Thank you to all of you who know more than this realtive newbie!

is your use year december? based on that nov 28 date, i'm guessing, but it would be until nov 30 you had.

you could try to rent them, but it's going to be quite difficult to find availability within that time frame. there is a rent/trade board on the DIS, but there are minimum post count requirements. you may want to look into the site sponsor, link should be at the top of this page. you're not going to be able to get much for money for the points this late in the game, but should enough to cover the dues.

if renting doesn't interest you, do you have any family or friends that may want to go? again, availability will be an issue.

that really stinks you had to cancel, i'm very sorry. hope you get to plan another trip soon. and good luck.

Well, if you hadn't cancelled the reservation, you might have been able to rent the reservation. Now it will be harder getting nights together if you decide to rent the points. Otherwise, you may just be out the points.

I take it you have a Dec UY, so the points will expire on Nov 30.

Did you already cancel it? If not...rent the existing reservation. I'm sure you could find someone looking for a last minute dvc trip.

Have you looked into doing an exchange with RCI? There will be a $95 transaction fee. I don't know if it's too late for you to do it. This is the info from the DVC website. I underlined the last sentence...and I think that's the part that may be a problem for you at this late date. Best of luck.

"DEPOSITING ACCOMMODATIONS FOR A FUTURE EXCHANGE
For exchanges through RCI, you have the option of depositing your reserved weekly Disney Vacation Club Resort accommodations into the RCI exchange system and then deciding later where, when and how long you'd like to travel.
Deposit First
The earlier you contact Member Services to discuss deposit options with your Vacation Advisor, the more flexibility you'll have for your future exchanges.
If you decide to deposit your reserved Disney Vacation Club Resort accommodations early, you will have the capability to search as far out as 24 months from your desired check-in date for weekly exchanges through RCI. Or you may look as far out as 10 months in advance of your desired check-in date for nightly and Signature Selections exchanges through RCI.
Depositing inventory into the RCI exchange system is subject to availability. Disney Vacation Club must be able to provide inventory within the same Use Year of the inventory deposited."

The fee is payable to exchange, not to deposit. It's paid up front when you initiate an exchange request and is refundable in some situations, not in others. If the OP can't rent them, this is likely the best option but there are limitations in doing the deposit there as well. Anything under 45 days is consider short notice which further limits both your potential value and choices. IF that's the choice, I'd get it done ASAP.

Thanks for correcting me! We've never done RCI before, but DH's former boss used to deposit their points into RCI often to extend the life of their points when they couldn't get to Disney.

I didn't really see it as a correction but more of a clarification. It's not a great option in general but it is good to have choice when you're stuck. Anyone that does this should immediately start planning how to use the deposit.

This is good advice. We just recently picked up a reservation from The Timeshare Store that someone was unable to use and will be going from 12/16-12/21. Was a very smooth transaction and we felt we got a good deal. We are retired so can do these kind of things:)! Hopefully the OP hasn't actually canceled the reservation yet.

I am guessing that would be a fairly easy reservation to rent with F & W going on. Ive been looking for a last minute ressie for Oct myself (weekend) and have come up emtpy.
