First DL Trip - Need Help choosing which Hotel

DH and I are DVC members and go to WDW almost every year. While we would LOVE to stay on property at DL, it is just NOT in our budget for our Aug. 09 trip. We don't know very much about the area hotels/motels near DL and are looking for some tips/suggestions from fellow DISers. It seems that the HOJO is a favorite...why is that one so much more preferred over the other area hotels? And has anyone ever stayed in any of the MOTELS that are more budget friendly? The reason we need to stay on a LOW budget is because DL is the first part of our trip...the second part of our trip will be in Vegas for my sister's wedding. TIA!!!

I booked HOJO for my upcoming trip for $59 a night, no Disney view but a fridge and a microwave and 2 queen beds. Of course I booked this a year ago so I got it $10 cheaper, but still at $69 a night this is the best bargain for Disneyland in Anaheim. It is within walking distance too-- gold.

Its very hard to get the Ent rate for August, for us we would only stay at Hojos if we could get the ent rate as their are other cheaper and closer options. Camelot, Carousel, Tropicana and BWPPI are the closest hotels to DL ( even closer than DL and PP Hotels). It all depends on what you are looking for in a hotel, they all have their strengths and weaknesses....
