I'm trying to figure out something fun to do our first day of our late January WDW vacation. Our flight should get in early, so we *should* be to our resort by lunch time. We are staying in a family suite at ASMu. Our last disney vacation we stayed at Ft. Wilderness, so we aren't interested in doing anything there this trip. We are on the regular dining plan, so we could do a character meal. I don't have a meal planned for this first day though. Normally we would plan on hanging out at our resort and swimming, but I'm not sure that is an option for the last week of January. It will be me, hubby, 12DS, 9DD, 7DS and 3DD. Thanks for the help!

I'd probably do one or more of the following:
* character meal, resort exploration (yours or others), low key dinner perhaps consisting of ice cream
* DTD with dinner at Dinosaur and fun and exploration of what that area has to offer. Consider La Nouba depending on timing
* "Fun" dinner at Ohana, Boma, or WCC, paired with some resort exploration.

Given it is a travel day, I'd still plan on an earlier turn in so you all are bright-eyed the next morning. Have fun!

I would go to DS for shopping and dinner. Raglan Road or TRex could be fun.

Or how about a meal at one of the EP resorts along with Fantasia mini-golf plus the Boardwalk evening entertainment (you could bus over to DHS and either boat or walk over)

Or add a park day and start getting some touring in. Perhaps WS in EP with dinner at Akershus or FW with dinner at Garden Grill?

Tour the monorail resorts with dinner at 1900 Park Fare or O'hana.

Disney Springs is always a fun thing to do on a first day specially since the construction there is practically finished and it looks totally and completely different now and has a TON of new stores. Another fun thing to do would be some resort hopping. I am obsessed with gift shops so I like to go in and look at different resorts and their gift shops and my hubby will usually take my kids to the arcades while I do this lol. Another fun thing to do is mini golf...there are a TON of mini golf places in Orlando or you can try out the Fantasia Mini Golf (we've never been bc my little 1 is still too young but maybe in a few years we will be able to do that). The Disney Boardwalk is also a fun place to go...the ESPN club is a fun place to eat and has good food if you want to eat dinner there and also I hear at night time the boardwalk comes a live with different entertainers which could be fun. I could think of a million more fun things to do on a first day lol...I love FL...seriously wish we could move there, lol

Have you considered the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage? It gets great reviews and seems like kids love it. You could do dinner beforehand. That's what we're doing for our check-in day. The only thing is it might not work if you want to be up early for a park day the following morning.

what kind of tickets do you have? If you have 5 or so days, it really cost so little to add on that extra day; cheaper than most other activities. What we like to do is wait to we get to WDW and choose somewhere in Epcot for that first day dinner. We do just WS for a few hours, eat dinner in whatever place we can get into that we have never done before and call it an early night.

Actually.... that's a really good point. For our family of 6, adding one more day would be about the same as we're paying for Pirates and Pals Voyage... now you have me thinking :ssst::confused3

Personally, I'm not into shopping, so Disney Springs isn't something I really, truly enjoy. DD likes to shop, so we will go there at some point during our trip (and we have the free QSDP so we'll eat at Wolfgang Puck's Express, which is a nice meal, especially for a QS meal).

Our first day, we always like to go to Epcot! Next trip, I have fastpasses for that evening there, and we like to get something to eat at one of the countries. I also like to pick up a bottle of vodka in Norway (and need to allow enough time for them to transport it to the shop at the entrance for me to pick up) so I have it in the room during the trip!

We don't go to MK the first day (matter of fact, we have that on day 3 of our next trip). We just find Epcot so relaxing, and a nice way to start the vacation.

No ADR's first day for us. Too stressful to need to be somewhere at a specific time!

We definitely wouldn't relax at the resort, since we would like to at least go do one ride and walk around!
