Just booked our first cruise! Thanks for everyone's advice here. It's not a Disney cruise and we are leaving the kids behind:) It's for my birthday and our 15th anniversary! Just had to tell someone!:woohoo:

Have a great time!!! Where are you cruising too?

You guys will really enjoy your time alone together! When we went in June, we loved sending the kids off to their club and having it just be us. We really reconnected! I can't wait until we leave the kids behind for once.

Congrats on the booking. What ship....where ya going.... You're gonna love it!

Thanks! We're on RCI Freedom of the Seas in a balcony room to the Eastern Caribbean. Can I PM a veteran with some questions? Cruisecritic doesn't have PMs and I feel like I'm being a pest. Oct. cannot come quick enough!

DH and I did the Freedom on the Western Caribbean 2 years ago. What a fantastic ship!!!! I am not a cruise expert by any means, only 2 cruises (Freedom and Disney Wonder) under my belt, but if you have any questions, I will try to help you:)

My Dh and I have been on many cruises, between the two of us we should be able to answer any questions you still have. Freedom is a great ship, we've been on her (twice!), and her sister Liberty.

I have cruised many times....one of my favorite ways to vacation.
Yesterday we just came off the Norwegian Dawn from Bermuda & we were very disappointed with the ship.
Loved the family & friends we were with & had a terrific time in Bermuda. There were so many people that were 1st time cruisers & said they would never cruise again after the Norwegian Dawn experience.

We have cruised RCC 3 times & have had great experiences.
The other lines have been Holland, Cunard & Carnival (that will NEVER happen again).

Enjoy your time!

You're going to have a great time! Don't give up on CruiseCritic. It's very similar to the DIS. Some people are just not nice, but most love to help. :flower3: Just like the DIS, ignore the nasty ones. ;)

NEVERENOUGHWDW - Sorry your cruise wasn't the typical cruise. It's too bad all those new cruisers may never give it another try.

Congrats!! I just booked my first cruise also. Doing to Cruise to Nowhere out of NYC on the new Carnival Dream ship.

I figured it was a good way to try a cruise for the first time.

Have a wonderful trip! I got a lot of good tips from cruise critic (where I see you have been already). One of the best tips was to take a shoe holder to hang on the back of the bathroom door to hold all your little things---it sure made things easier since there is limited room in your cabin. We kept just about everything you can think of (that will fit) in ours. You can buy a cheap on at the dollar store, or a nice cloth one that you can save and reuse.

I would also recommend taking some sort of motion sickness medicine, or ginger vitamins, just in case. I didn't used to be so sensitive to motion, but in my middle age, I seem to feel it more. Last time I took ginger vitamins 3 times a day and didn't get the drowsiness that I got with the Dramamine and Bonine.

Have a great trip!
