We have a choice of either deck 5 near the teen room which may be preferable as we have two teens or midship deck 9 on the dream. Which would you advise me to go for? I've read that it's more expensive the higher up the ship you go. Why is this?

Thanks for your replies

First.....WELCOME TO THE CRUISE BOARD!!! You will find tons of answers here to all your DCL cruise questions!!

Ok...the logic in the cruise industry is that the higher deck equates to being better....stemming from the old cruising industry standards of 1st class passengers being higher than the "steerage" passengers.

Luckily that is not true these days. Most any any cabin on any deck of a modern cruise ship is just as good as the next....obviously a verandah cabin will cost more than an inside or an oceanview cabin...but don't worry about which deck so much....go with the cheaper cabin in the same category. Well....verandah cabins all the way aft will have a solid white wall verandah railing instead of a clear plexiglass one and that makes those rooms less expensive.

The only thing I can think of about having a cabin near the Teen Club on the Dream is possible noise and/or teens "hanging" out in the hallways near the club...this may be totally unfounded, but just a concern that popped in my head.

Hope this helps somewhat!!

And on a total side note....will be visiting London on the 24th!!! I love London!...our daughter is finishing up her last semester in college at AIU so we are hopping across the pond for a visit!!

It's tough to offer much insight on the best locations on the Dream since no one has first hand experience yet. But I'll give it a shot. ;)

You may have to weigh the convenience of being close to the teen club against the possible inconvenience of additional hallway traffic and noise. Will that definitely be a problem? I don't know, but it's a possibility.

I think the higher decks are better thing goes all the way back to early cruise travel where the riff raff were kept in steerage, and the elite had the run of the upper decks. We've stayed on decks 5-8 on the Magic and I actually prefer deck 5 over deck 8. :confused3

Many folks swear midship is better as far as feeling movement. We've always stayed aft, so I can't really comment, other saying it has never been a problem for us... but none of us are prone to seasickness either.

Probably not a whole lot of help, but maybe a couple of things to think about.

Good Luck with your decision.

Thankyou so much for your replies MJ and catsmommy. You were both very helpful and its given me a few things to think about. Would the teen club be open late into the night? I can't see us being in our room much but I guess once we do go to bed we are going to want to get a good nights sleep! Oh and MJ I'm glad you like London I hope you have a great trip when you cross the pond!

Oh yes...the teen club stays open late...they usually have scheduled activities that run until about 1:00 or 2:00 am.

And feel free to start new threads with new questions...this community is a pretty friendly group!!!

I am sure you will get some more posts here as well.

JMHO, but I'd rather my teens walk further to the teen club than have our stateroom very close to it. :goodvibes

It sounds like a room near the teen club is a no no then! Our deck 9 option is almost next to an elevator midship is that going to be a no no too! I'm guessing that as time goes by other staterooms may become available and we could move?
Thanks again for everybody's help with this.

We have been near the elevators a few times onboard Magic and Wonder and we found no problem with the location at all....actually very convenient!

I would look at deck 5 aft. Deck 5 is pretty quiet most of the time as there are way fewer staterooms on it. If you were closer to the back of the ship you would be "close" to the teen club without being "on route" to and from it:thumbsup2 Also a quick elevator ride up to the drink station pools etc(assuming the layout of the dream is close to the wonder/magic) deck 9 will have better views and you will pay more for them. we loved deck 5 forward on the wonder ( no teen area there) and would try deck 5 aft for sure:)

Thanks for your reply disney 2010. I hadn't thought about aft. We've taken deck 9 with a view to changing if something becomes available. Deck 5 aft sounds good we'll have a look there.
Is there anyway I can check for myself which staterooms are free or do I need to go through my TA or DCL?

You can always just do a "mock" booking at the DCL site...and get to the point where you can pick a stateroom. The site will give you a few options to choose from but not a complete list of available rooms. If there is a specific cabin you want to check on you can enter that stateroom number and the site will tell you if it is available or not.

We were recently assigned deck 5 foward on the wonder in a sideways stateroom. Since this is our first cruise I have nothing to compare it with. Are we going to like this location?

I don't know anything about your "sideways stateroom" but we loved deck 5 forward:thumbsup2 we found deck 5 pretty quite even though it has the kid clubs that action really seemed contained to mid ship. The forward elevators seemed much less busy then the mid of aft so no matter where we were we walked to the forward elevators to return to our stateroom. The only thing is the drink station and some restaurants etc are aft so you have to walk the whole length of the ship to get to them......But the ship jus isn't that big::yes:: :sail:
