First Couple Weeks of August in DW

Crowds are still pretty thick. Definitely be there ready to hit it hard at rope drop and take a break midday. Heat and humidity are intense.

It will be VERY busy the first 2 weeks of August. Once schools start back starting the 3rd week it will get a little better.

We usually do our summer trips in June, or just before July. This year we get there the first week of August for 12 days. Not sure I'm really looking forward to it - the crowds sound like they might be even busier than in June. The trick is to just accept the fact it will be really crowded and really hot, and plan plenty of midday breaks and relaxing dinners.

I am a little worried about what FP+ will be doing to our usually techniques to enjoying ourselves in peak crowds - hopefully we'll still get to do some of our favorites. I just refuse to wait 2 hours in a line for anything at my age, so if that's the only way I'm going to get on a ride like TSMM or Soarin', I'm just skipping it and probably won't be back anytime soon.

This.

I HATE when we tell people we are going to WDW at the end of July/beginning of August and they say

"It's going to be really hot!"

Really? Gee - that didn't occur to me.

The other day a friend asked me when we are going - April or Feb. I said neither. She says, "Ugh - summer?!" I replied - no, not ugh summer - just summer.

It is ALWAYS all in what you make it. If you go expecting to be cool, needing a sweater at night, and hopping on and off the rides at your leisure well then you'll be disappointed. If you go knowing it will be hot and busy, you'll have a great time.

FWIW when we went in 2010 (also summer), it turned out to be hotter here at home than in FL ;) Yes, I might have thumbed my nose at the naysayers!

We have traveled to WDW year round but never the first two weeks in Aug.... We knew the crowds would be big... similar to July or Easter.... but when we went last Aug. 1-10th, we just couldn't believe how crowded all the parks were by 10:30 am! Even on early entry days, by 9:30 there was an hour wait on many rides. Planning your must Do's on the early side so you don't have to wait in long, long lines. Rope Drop is the best bet to beat some of the crowds and the heat! One day it was 103!
