What do you get a boy for a first communion present.
I'm the godmother / aunt. I did a quick search and things all kind of look girl like.
If I get him a cross necklace, I'm thinking he wouldn't wear it?

Thanks

I gave both my goddaughter and godson a nice gold cross & chain when they made their first communion - i wanted them to have nice keepsake. He didn't wear his as much when he was younger but he's in his mid 20's now and wears it all the time. My goddaughter has pretty much always worn hers and she's now 13. If you decide to go that route, I would check to see if he prefers to wear silver or gold (perhaps his parents can answer that better for you if you plan to surprise him). Another thought would be money. This is something I have given all my nephews and nieces over the years. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Money is always appropriate. For my ds', I got them pewter namesake saint medals on chains.

I always give money as a gift with a frame or small keepsake like a medal or statue for boys. Girls are so much easier lots of keepsakes for them. I did get a huge hatbox decorated with a 1st Communion Girl on it for keepsake for my daughter you could do for a boy also. :thumbsup2

If you're the Godmother, then I would give some sort of religious token (St. Jude Shop?) in addition to a monetary gift.

What about a nice prayer book? My son's Godmother gave him a gray mother of pearl prayer book eight years ago and he still uses it.

A Rosary is the gift both my girls received as first Communion gifts from their Godparents. They go to a Catholic school and do a decade of the Rosary every school day in October (the month of the Rosary) and May (the month of Mary).

Hallmark has many gifts for this special occasion. I'd take a look there. I recently saw many nice "First Communion" photo frames.

He probably already received one or more cross necklaces when he was baptized. I would stick to cash.

What about a watch? That's we got both our boys. I agree boys are hard to buy for things such as this.

My parents got my oldest son a really cool carved wooden cross for his room. I'm not sure where they got it though.

You could always do cash as well.

One item my mom got my younger dd when she made her 1st Communion last year (in addition to gold cross earrings), was a "My Mass and Holy Communion Book", and my daughter absolutely loves it!

She takes it in with her to mass each week, and follows along in it the entire time. I think it helps her understand what is going on, gives her a timeline to follow, and helps her know how much longer the mass will be, lol.

Here's an example of one, but you can just google them.. ww.stp atri cksg uild .com/brow se....communion-book-in-white-hardcover/4,7152.html

A great gift that both my boys received was a St Christopher medal and on the back was their favorite sport :) Good luck

My son wasn't the gold chain type but I wanted him to have a cross. We purchased a white gold cross with a black cord instead of a chain. He wore it all the time (until he wore it to soccer practice and the cross fell off and I never found it). I'm not sure who was more bummed, him or me.

For friends we do either money or a savings bond.

James Avery dot com has a nice selection of religious jewelry along with non-religious. They have some really nice masculine pieces and some specifically listed as "first communion". Their stuff is excellent quality.
