I really need ideas for a gift for my daughter. She already has a bible, tons of jewelry, rosaries...etc. We are at a loss.

Also what type of party did you arrange? Sorry she is our only child and we are at a loss....thanks!

We had family and some close friends at our two dds' Communion parties. Had them at our house. Food, cake, nothing huge. I know many people rent halls here for Communion parties. We didn't have that many people that we would have needed a hall.

Don't remember what we got dd12, but last year gave dd9 a locket for Communion. She already had a cross necklace and likes lockets.

A picture frame is always nice. Sometimes you can get them engraved with the date. If you have a religious goods store nearby, you should be able to get all kinds of ideas.

How about a cross for her room? DH & I reciecved one after completing pre cana classes. We hung it in our bedroom above the door. Both kids recieved on for their first communion and we hung theirs over their door as well. Or a cross for a necklace, or maybe a charm braclet with a cross as her first charm.

Our parties considted of bagels and such back at our home after the mass. Their mass was at 8:30am. Then after bfast we had a cake.

First let me tell you I am not Catholic (so I am unable to receive or purchase this gift); however my Father-in-law is a deacon in his Catholic church and often uses these as gifts.

The gift I am talking about is a Papal Blessing. It is a little hard to come by, you will have to contact the Diocesan Chancery office of your parish or dioceses. They will make the request on your behalf. You pay them a fee, which is passed on to the Vatican and used to feed the poor.

I wanted one a couple of years ago for the birth of a friend's child and had my Father-in-law make the request. I was very happy with the finished product; and the gift receiver (a life-long Catholic) did not even know they were available. Upon receipt she promptly went off and had it framed and hung it in the baby's room--so I guess she liked it.

We did parties for our kids at home. We got my son a gold tie tack and my daughter a white purse that had a rosary, a prayer book, etc in it. They both received gold crosses from my Mom and first communion keepsake boxes from my brother and SIL.

DD is getting hers in May...DS was last year. We will likely be getting dd a nice cross necklace...but if you don't want to do jewelry I think you could do something like a framed prayer to hang on her wall - maybe personalized with the date and her name and First Holy Communion or something like that.

For a party - we do a brunch after the morning ceremony here at our house. We have a huge family - so there might be 30 or 40 people here. But luckily it's in May so we'll setup some tables in the garage and we'll have the deck (except if bad weather - then the kids will all be in the basement). We'll have some egg casserole, bagels, potatoes, ham and fruit. We order a cake for dessert.

We just have munchies/cake at home for whoever wants to stop by afterward. And pretty much nobody in the family does gifts. Most give a card (without money). Heck, I'm the parent and don't get them anything (except to the church on time and the cake).

Then again, most of our family has had a rough decade. And we're not really a gift-giving bunch anyway.

So coming from my angle, the Sacrament followed by a celebratory gathering is plenty to give.

Even if your daughter has some jewelry already, I think jewelry is an appropriate gift because it will have sentimental value as marking a milestone in her life . I received a small ring from my Grandparents that I still cherish. All of the granddaughters were given the same ring. My boys received gold crosses. I bought them a little larger size so they would not look too petite on a grown man. They still wear them. Maybe start a charm bracelet for her. I just think you can't go wrong with jewelry. God bless your daughter on her special day.

Thank you everyone for the ideas.... I am looking at some personalized gifts!
