First Come...First Serve at OKW!!!

As someone who has never really gotten their requests filled even when booking at the 11 month window day by day for a reservation, I'm not sure what the big deal is. I used to request views and never got them so now I just request "non-smoking" and let that be the end of it. I guess it's part of my "DVC" attitude... I know I will be going back next year (sometimes even sooner, I know for some as much as every third year) for the next 40 years or so, so it doesn't ruin my entire trip if I don't get the exact view and location that I want... at some point the planets will align properly and I will get to try out that boardwalk view or whatever, but it's not like this is the "trip of a lifetime" where this is my one and only chance to go to WDW and if everything is not perfectly the way I want it, I won't ever have a chance to visit again.

Sometimes I request turtle pond area, sometimes I don't. I really don't get this pre-occupation with location.

Rich,
When you request smoking optional you almost have to be preoccupied with location. A few of these buildings are in very poor locations.

When this rumor first surfaced a couple weeks ago, I e-mailed MS and asked if it was true. I was told it was NOT true! The e-mail said rooms were being reserved per requests when possible and your length of time the request was made was the deciding factor. We and our friends both requested South Point buildings 53,54,or 55 for January. We have always gotten our requests before, so hope we still do!

In this case, MS is probably not the most reliable source as they represent all of DVC. This is an individual "OKW" thing and it's a "trial" basis and that came from both experience upon check-in and also directly speaking to the resort manager personally.

Hopefully it will change .........

Lisa F, you have a GREAT attitude. We did OKW this summer and I was in the boondocks -- #56. Not on the bus line, nowhere near the HH, etc. We LOVED it! It was quiet, no traffic, the quiet pool was great and empty. And I am laundry-obsessed so I was glad to be near the washers!

I am trying hard to cultivate this "no worries" attitude. We will be visiting lots of times, as you said. It is hard for a control-freak like me to "let go" and just let stuff happen. Often, good things come to me when I don't over-manage -- like building #56! No matter WHAT the policy at OKW regarding room-assignments, odds are all our trips will be LOVELY!

We request non smoking and NOT a HC room. I feel that being too restrictive such as asking for a certain room or even a certain building and floor is tough for the staff. It's like calling your Doctor and saying you want a Physical next Monday after school, it might happen but if it doesn't, no reason to be unhappy. I have no problem with the requests, it's only being unhappy if it doesn't happen that I'm concerned about.

I agree that even though I make requests I never count on getting them, what I am upset about is because of the travel restrictions in getting to their from the N.W. that under this new plan I as an OKW owner, am almost guaranteed to never get a request, just seems somewhat unfair, esp. when I plan my trips 11mos out and then if someone makes a last minute res. and shows up earlier than me in the day, their request is more likely to get filled. Does anybody see something wrong here?

Colleen, we like building #56 too, except for the proximaty to the pool if you happen to get an end unit on that end of the building. It is a bit too close to the hot tub.
