First Bag Free (Delta) - Using Resort Airline Check-In

I didn't see an answer to this when searching (I apologize if I just missed it). On our next trip in a couple weeks, we are flying Delta, and I also have the AMEX Skymiles card, giving the "first bag free" for both my wife and I since we purchased on that card. My question is if anyone has had the same thing and if they used the Resort Airline Check In and whether or not they properly see that our bags are free vs. the standard bag fee.

If they cannot see it, then obviously we just take our bags with us on Magical Express back to the airport and check in there...not a big deal.

If they can process the bags properly without the fee, my next question is if I still need to call in to the bag line at 5:00am when they open? I wasn't sure if this had to happen regardless if the bags were free or paid...or if it was strictly for collecting the fees when required.

Obviously the best (preferred) answer would be that Airline Check-In can see we are allowed a free checked bag each and that I just take directly to the Check-In Kiosk in the morning.

Anybody with experience with this, I would appreciate some info. Thank you!

They connect right with the airline's system and seem to be very good at getting it right. When DH had status with United that allowed him three extra-heavy bags per person they knew that, for instance.

I've done it. They know when they pull up your reservation that it's no charge.

Yep it's in your reservation with Delta. When they pull it up, it will show them this information.

Perfect! My only other question is that since I will not need to pay for bags, do I still have to call first thing in the morning? I wasn't sure if that was ONLY for collection of bag fees. Guessing I can just go to the desk with my bags.

You do not have to call. Just take your bags to RAC without any worries. Last week, when I brought my suitcase to RAC, the agent asked me if I had prepaid my bag before she checked my reservation. I told her that I get a free bag and when she went to print the Delta luggage tag, she did not say anything further about payment since she saw it in the system.

You don't have to call RAC is just like curbside at the airport so they can check your status- only a bit further away! Just to clarify though - and for folks reading this in the future you can call the day prior and pay your bag fees if applicable you don't have to wait till 5am on departure day. Just did this in December for my dd, called the day prior to departure and paid the bag fee then checked her in the next day with plenty of time for her to make her DME reservation.

Just go to the desk.

Just be sure that you check in at the RAC desk at least 3 hours prior to your scheduled flight time.

I don't mean to hijack but I have a question since I read your post. I purchased tickets for my family using my Delta Skymiles Amex, does that mean they all get a free checked bag? I thought it would just be a free checked bag for me but if they all get a free checked bag that would be fantastic. Thanks!

You and up to 8 people traveling with you on the same itinerary each get 1 free checked bag. As long as they are on the same itinerary as you, they get a free checked bag.

Ah, I booked on miles for me and my son and then booked the three tickets for my mom, brother and sister and paid with the Amex skymiles card. I will only have one checked bag though so I guess one of them could check one in my son's name.

Thanks for info, it's good to know for the future!
