First and Last Visit to AKL this last weekend

I have to agree with the OP. We stayed there for the first 4 days of out trip. Boma, the Mara and the Pool were great. That's about it. We were really displeased with everything else. Oh I forgot, I really enjoyed the 2 hours I spent in the laundry room, I met a lot of really nice people.

My husband and I stayed there last Nov. We both really liked it but I was not all that thrilled with the grounds. I loved the building, the pool, the restaurants and even the gift shop.
We also stayed at the YC and loved it there.
I was suprised at the comments about the bus taking so long and being so far away. We thought it was great since we didn't have to make any stops . Direct service. We had a car and did not even use it to go to the parks.
YC may have been close to many things but it took longer to get to MK from there than from AKL.
We will be staying at AKL this April but this time we are getting a pool view. We will be closer to everything and not have to walk as far.

When you say it is far from the parks, where is a map of the resorts in relation to the parks? I would like to know where all the resorts are?

I LOVED AKL, but DH and I agree we will only stay there when we do not plan to go to the parks much. We are planning a trip without our DD for our anniversary and we will probably stay there and just stay on the resort grounds the whole trip (2 nights!) I think Boma and Jiko are the two finest restaurants on WDW property and I was sooooo impressed with Mara, the counter service restaurant. I loved the pool, too.

I agree about the savannah view. We paid for a pool view and got a complimentary upgrade to savannah. I wish I would have just kept the pool view. Just like you said, after seeing a giraffe or two, I dunno...it just was boring. Plus at night it is just black out there. I would have preferred the lights and activity of a pool view.

You should try the WL sometime. You can ride a boat to MK...or a boat to CR and then take the monorail to MK, or transfer to TTC and go to Epcot. I know that takes some time, but the monorail and boat are so much more "vacation-y" than a bus. At least you get that "Disney" vibe.

Go to the Disney website and search 'map' and you'll find it. One thing with their map though, it is definitely not to scale.

We enjoyed our trip to AKL, but I thought the bus service was quite lacking. I won't be in any hurry to return, because it just didn't live up to my expectations. Even though we got a good rate of $129, I really don't think it was worth it to us. I much prefered our trip to CSR for the money($69/night). Just my 2 cents worth.
