I love the 4th of July, but..... I live in the suburbs just far enough out of town to be good and bad. Well, 2 of my neighbors keep letting off fire works!
You know the kind -loud, noisy and keeps my kids awake. I have a dog that will not stop barking and a baby that will not go to sleep because of the noise!! It just makes me crazy. Call me over cautious, but I think they are dangerous and I have seen a bad accident with people doing it in their backyard. So I am the not fun mom who won't let her children around them.

Now don't get me wrong. We love fireworks that are put off in our communities. We will see several displays over the next few days and really enjoy them ( all but the baby that is). I just don't like them in my neighborhood!! Sorry I just had to vent!!!!

::yes:: I know the feeling exactly! One of my neighbors started fireworks ealrier, but thank goodness it didn't last but about 15 minutes. (Just think- It will get worse each night leading up to the fourth.) We'll shoot some on the Fourth, but none until then. I hate it when it keeps the kids up. Last year some of the neighbors did them a few nights before the Fourth till like 1 AM... The kids have a hard time sleeping, as well as DH and I...

There's a party going on behind our house right know with blasting music.
:sad2: its almost 11pm here

They have thrown this party every year that we have lived here that I can remember ( 12 years)

my only major pet peeve was

Every year they shoot the fireworks over the bushes and the junk lands in our lawn, pool , deck etc.

But thankfully one of my acquantices is at that party every year spoke to the hosts last year about our complaints and they have been shooting in the oposite direction this year.

We live in a rural town where they are legal. They started selling them on Thursday. They scare DS and most of the time go on long past his bedtime. It will only get worse! And they keep shooting them off long after the 4th.

On DS's first 4th, he was 2 months od. The neighbors across the street let a VERY long string of firecrackers off right in front of his window. (Think 15 minutes long) They laughed and said "I guess your baby won't sleep tonight!"

But the joke is on them... they have a new baby this year! ;)

I guess I'm not the only one ready to lose it! My neighborhood has been shooting them off almost non-stop since yesterday. Even durring the day today. Seriously - do we NEED to shoot off fireworks in the middle of the afternoon? I was watching my 7mo old niece this afternoon and they kept going off while she was trying to nap.

So what's the protocol? Is it acceptable to ask people to stop? :confused3

It's 11pm here and I still hear the neighbors setting them off. :firefight ::cop: Of course sirens have been going off all night as well.

ugh! One of my pet peeves is that a town near-by sells the dumb "Safe & Sane" fireworks - hey dummies - they're not legal in THIS burg!! We're just outside town limits, but they're not legal in our county at all, so I think the cops will be busy if they are heard around here.

I can't remember what the law is here... I think it's that you can't buy them in IL, but you can use them... is that dumb or what?!? :teacher:

We live less than a mile from an Indian reservation and they sale the not safe or sane kind! They start selling them around the first of June. For the life of me I can not see what the big deal is over a firecracker just because it is loud AND illegal!

I was just talking to a neighbor tonight (we just moved here) and commented on all the fireworks going off in our neighborhood. She told me because we are literally feet outside of the city limits, it's not illegal in our neighborhood to set them off! They have been going off every night for several nights. I'm wondering how people afford that many fireworks? :confused3 Thankfully, the baby is sleeping anyway. Dh just commented that he wondered if I'll get any sleep since I'm the light sleeper in our house.

I so know how it is. :furious: People in our neighborhood have been shooting off fireworks since last weekend. Yes, they shoot them off during the daytime too. :confused3 My DH has to walk our 4 legged baby girl between blasts. She's terrified of them, & won't go out when they're shooting them off. We live in a water restricted area, so I don't know where they're buying them. There are several places within a short drive that sell them 365 days a year. They do this same thing for every holiday. It doesn't have to Christmas or the 4th. Just anytime they have a semblance of an excuse. :sad2:

Glad to hear that I am not the only one that feels that way. It is 11:30 and my neighbors behind us are partying and still setting off fireworks. They started shortly after 10 tonight. We live in a rural community and have a dozen or less neighbors within walking distance. I guess that you always have that one annoying neighbor. They just put their house up for sale and we are all excited. Within 5 minutes of the fireworks starting, my DD(5) came downstairs crying that she couldn't sleep. If I soon don't get her back to sleep, it is going to make for a long day tomorrow. Maybe I should get some fireworks and set them off at 5am tomorrow morning when they are all sleeping it off. LOL

I don't know what the usage law is, but I remember always bringing my cousin in Chicago some fireworks when we would visit. They are illegal in St. Louis county, but legal in neighboring counties, so we can easily get them.

OP, I'm sorry they're keeping the baby up. That would tick me off too. I just realized that I haven't heard any being shot off yet. Hopefully it will stay that way. A few years ago, a house nearby completely burned to the ground because some kids were shooting fireworks. Fortunately, the family was out of town so they weren't hurt. But can you imagine? Just some dumb punk kids goofing around and your house is gone.

I truly feel your pain. Last night after a LOOOOOOOOOONG day (see my newest post on the WFD thread), we snuggled down into bed. After JUST falling asleep, it begins: POW! It's going to be a long week :(

I'm not too picky about fireworks, but it's when it goes on all day and night that it makes me crazy.

It terrifies the dog, which is no big deal right? She's just a dog and she'll get over it. Right, but when it goes on for whole days at a time, she starts puking. Now that makes for a fun Fourth

Fortunately for me, they're not legal to sell or set off in my area. So the townships do professional presentations and then everyone goes home safe and happy.

My IL's live in a rural area, right next to some truly fun people who have a fleet of rusting cars on their property. Said fun people set off fireworks for weeks before and after the 4th, even though the fire hazard meter is at Code Red for their area. :confused3

Some of the fireworks they sell in town are bigger than my head!

:confused3 in IL. you can shoot off anything that stays close to the ground is legal, anything that goes up in the air is not......

I personally don't mind the fireworks in the neighborhood as long as they are being blown off earlier than 9 or 9:30pm. Any later than that is just rude to your fellow neighbors.

We had people blowing fireworks off by us until midnight last night - how annoying!!! :furious:
