Fireworks vent

Op Do you live in are neighboorhood. We had 2 houses putting them off at the same time. The one was only 4 houses down and they where shooting them off towards are house. When in theory they could have shot them towards the field right behind all of the houses which would have been safer. At least I hope they are down now. But I am sure we will see more from other houses.

Yeah I live in a developement -- all the houses are on 1/4 to 1/2 acre lots.

Such a change of pace for me here. Having lived in the hot dry desert for the past 15 years, where no "personal" fireworks of any kind were allowed (that I ever knew of), it's odd seeing them being sold and hearing them go off. The rare times I ever heard fireworks in my neighborhood, I got to be one of the (probably many) grumpy old neighbors who called the cops. I wasn't going to sit by and watch my house, or heck my whole block burn, just because someone thought it'd be funny to shoot fireworks into the desert sagebrush.

But they're sold here, so I guess they're legal here, so I'll just have to see how bad it does or doesn't get.

where I live they are totally illegal--
Hasn't stopped my neighbors form shooting them off for as long as we have lived here.

Fireworks are illegal here but our neighborhood is full of idiots that kept lighting them off last night. Someone had one that went for about 10 full minutes of boom and boom after boom. It looked like a big block of something on fire, I could see it from my window. I couldn't even hear my TV over it. Normally I'm not too bothered by that kind of stuff, but this was excessive. I guess since there isn't a consequence from the police, they will continue to light them off

Last year we lived in a relatively nice development and the jerks around the corner were setting off fire crackers non-stop for 4 hrs. into the night. I felt like a heel, but I finally called the cops on them. I don't like to rain on people's parade but enough's enough-especially at 2 am. Anyway, this year we now live out in the country and it's pretty nice. I thought the 4th would be out of hand but no! We went to the fireworks store to get stuff-sparklers,snakes,spark cones and smoke bombs-I told the kids no firecrakers, bottle rockets, roman candles etc. No noise. Oh, my point...the place was packed and people are spending hundreds of dollars on fireworks...it was crazy!

Sparklers and snakes! Those used to be my favorite growing up and living in MI (where most fireworks are legal) :teeth:

So far most of the fireworks have stopped by 11 or so. It doesn't get dark until 10 pm here so it is understandable that people want to shoot them off that late. They haven't kept us up and the dog has gotten used to them.

We were in Missouri for the 4th last year and everything was legal where we were. We spent 4 nights being entertained by huge displays from other people's yards. It was pretty nice actually, especially since they don't have mosquitoes!!!! No one was too obnoxious with shooting them off late. There weren't a lot of firecrackers so that helps too.

their illegal here but that does'nt stop walmart and some of the big chains from selling them. around here they prosecute if they catch or can prove someone set them off, and the local authorities get pretty creative. the days around the 4th they will drive around the neighborhoods and look for tell-tale scorch marks. the police knock on the door of the house and inquire where the residents were the night before, if they were home they are questioned as to who set off fireworks on their property-and issued a ticket. if people claim they were'nt home the police warn them that they are responsible to take reasonable actions to ensure illegal acts are not committed on their property (then they drive back by the next couple of days to see if there's a repeat of the scorches and issue a ticket).

there is a huge public campaign about what individual property/renter's responsibilities are when it comes to fireworks, and failing to report an infraction. but we also live in a city of mostly neighborhoods where it is soooooooo unlikely anyone but the renter/property owner would ever set the things off in front of someone elses house.

what gets me is it's legal to shoot the things off no more than 10 miles up the road-so if someone has a huge desire that town has tons of public land that they invite people to set stuff off on (and it's not limited to the 4th).

My neighbors moved !!!! We're expecting a peaceful year with possibly a few modest displays by neighbors. Gone are the days of 12 hours of fireworks followed by literally garbage bags full of trash on our lawn, in our trees, on our roof. Gone are the days of me marching over to oust their sorry rears out of bed to clean up our yard. Yeah!!!

Sorry to gloat. I feel your pain. I'm just trying to decide whether we dare leave the dogs home alone to go view the fireworks from the home of a friend who has a view. We've never dared to go before because we couldn't leave the dogs in this environment.

I hear ya!!!

We are having to do an afternoon party on Tuesday and then head home because my doggies will climb the bushes (seriously) when they hear the boom booms. My big ol' labs sure act like pansies :goodvibes

I love fireworks. I'm even pretty tolerant if they go on pretty late. But so far the one's going off around here have stopped around 9:30ish. We did have a block party last night and they went on until maybe 10:30.

Someone was lighting them off last night at 7:30. It was still light and sunny out. I can appreciate fireworks if they light up, but what's the point of just lighting things for the sake of making noise?

Well, obviously being British we don't celebrate July 4 (it's an American holiday!), but we get the same problem on Guy Fawkes night (Nov 5). I'd be much happier (for the animals - my dog used to be absolutely petrified) if fireworks weren't available commercially and people just went to the big displays (of which there are plenty). Or at least if people stopped setting them off after a certain time.

Thing is, people start using them in late October and are still using them until late November!

I don't know about anyone here, but I'd rather go to a proper fireworks display than buy the really cheap/nasty ones.

Here in Michigan fireworks are TECHNICALLY illegal... HOWEVER 4 out of 5 ppl (including yours trullys dh and dbil ;)) go across the border into Ohio and get the huge "REAL" fireworks (ahem..no snakes or sparklers in site ;)).

We don't set them off in the neighborhood though.. We go to my inlaws who live way out in the boonies in the country with no neighbors anyone near being close and shoot them off in their field. Trust me, I KNOW how freakin' aggravating trying to get some sleep and then hearing loud cannon fire is... IN 1 IN THE AFTERNOON WHEN I AM TRYING TO GET SOME SLEEP BECAUSE I WORK THE LATE SHIFT!!!!!!! :furious: :furious: Sorry, had to rant. ;)

Because of our drought, they are completely banned in our county. People will likely smuggle them in anyway but so far I haven't heard a thing!

OK, I can top all of you :teeth:

We live very close to a fireworks discount factory!...and behind a big field. We have fireworks going off all YEAR round. But during holidays, it's all day and ALL night. Occasionally, a group of teenagers will get together and shoot fireworks AT EACH OTHER, trying to hit the other person (like Laser Tag) :sad2:

The only good thing that has come out of this, is that my kids sleep though ANY noise. :teeth: There is no noise in the world that will wake them up.
