Is there a Fireworks SuperThread?

I'm a new AP holder (this year) and have seen WOC (twice) and Fantasmic! for the first time last week. This coming Saturday we will see the Fireworks show for the first time.

Where should we sit? Can we sit? What time should we get there? Can we camp out? Should I bring a blanket?

Thanks Everyone! :goodvibes

We found a place right at the curb in front of the castle. They let us sit for a while, but eventually made us stand (maybe an hour before? They let us sit until then). You need to be in the 'road' part, as they will not let you stand on the curb area during the show (people will be walking back and forth in front constantly as that is a designated walkway, though).

We staked out our spot about 2 hours before the fireworks were set to begin.

The problem creating a fireworks superthread is that there are four different fireworks shows at DL right now - not counting what happens over July 4. Some have Tink. Some have Dumbo. Some have neither. Some are designed specifically to be viewed from the hub. Some have extra effects by Small World. Some are now limited to special ticket events and cannot be seen by the general guest (I do believe - not 100% sure).

In general you can camp out but unless you want a very specific spot in the hub you can get a decent spot 30-45 minutes before the fireworks starts. Sometimes even 15 minutes. In general folks do not use blankets - at least that I have seen. For some shows the desirable spot for many is right in front of the castle and that may require arrival 120 minutes early.

About the only things in common is that each show has fireworks and each can be canceled because of winds aloft - making fireworks the most risky show to invest time into.

There is no Firework SuperThread like F! and WoC SuperThread.

SB Castle is also part of the show with fireworks launching from the castle, colorful bright lights illuminate the castle, and projections on the castle. Also don't forget that you can watch Tink (RDCT & Magical) and Dumbo (during Magical) in a great spot during the fireworks.

The best spot to watch the fireworks is in front of SB Castle. A lot of people have different personal preference of where they like to watch the fireworks in front of SB Castle. The very closest spot to watch the fireworks in front of SB Castle is the curb sidewalk. The curb walkway closest to the castle will be roped off for people that are planning to walk to another land during the fireworks. So you will be on the black road when you watch the fireworks.

Mostly you have to stand up during the fireworks. The CMs will make an announcement to the guests to stand up for the firework show about 10-15 minutes until it starts. The only place where you can sit down and watch the fireworks is the benches around MS. There are benches around the Hub which you can use to sit down and watch the fireworks. But since everyone is standing, you will almost likely have to stand up too if you don't want to be blocked out when you are sitting and watching the fireworks.

For what time you should get there depends on how important the view is to you and your group. I have seen people wait more than 7+ hours for a spot in front of SB Castle for the fireworks (but that is for New Years Eve and 4th of July). But on average, I have seen people claim a spot about 3+ hours. That is most likely for the benches in front of SB Castle. You can still get a spot on the road half hour prior to the show. But since you are doing it during the summertime, it can fill up in one hour. I have seen people force their way in when the fireworks start.

You can stake spots around the Hub in front of SB Castle for the fireworks. But mostly they are on the curb side closest to the castle and the curb side of the Hub. Mostly I have seen people set up around 2 to 3 hours prior to the fireworks. You can bring a blanket and use it to claim your spot for the fireworks. Just like F!, where you can bring a blanket and claim a spot in the sitting area right next to the ROA. You just at least need one member of your party to watch the blanket while the others can go on rides, get food, bathroom etc. and still have your spot.

Just like what HydroGuy said that the fireworks can be canceled due to winds and lightning.

For me I always get there 2 to 3 hours prior to the fireworks right on the curb side closest to the Hub. This is mostly for videotaping the fireworks. I always like to videotape the fireworks and this is where I videotape it from the pictures below.

Here is my video of Magical that I have videotaped right next to the Hub.

Thanks for the good information. I hope you can help with a couple questions. It looks like Main Street, including the circle around the hub, is used for watching fireworks. Can you tell me when they start roping off the walk ways and when Main Street vehicles stop running? Is it OK to 'sit' on any part of Main Street and wait even with foot traffic going both ways on the street itself? I assume eventually the street foot traffic stops as the area fills up with people waiting for the fireworks but not sure when it is ok to stop, sit, and wait.

I am not sure exactly when they start roping things off. Sometime around 45-60 minutes before. At that point folks do sit on Main Street. Folks do of course watch the fireworks from all over the park. However yes the hub is the main viewing area.

The MS vehicles stop running for the first parade.

The roping off is gradual. As the hub starts to fill with people about an hour before the Fireworks, it will get roped. (This is dependent on the days' crowd levels) Then as people are foreced into the roped areas and the hub fills they will start moving the roping back toward back to the gates.

So really you shouldn't sit on main street until it's roped off. You are puting yourself at risk of injuring yourself and others. Also on Mainstreet you stand to watch the fireworks. What you could do is Sit on the curb and when the ropes make it to you take a place in the street.

Though I will suggest go for the Hub and not Main Street itself. In some of the shows there are elements to it you won't want to miss when the buildings on your sides block your veiw. While the hub is a 10/10 view, Mainstreet is somewhere around 9/10 or 8/10.
