we went to illuminations tonight, and when we got back to our room, we noticed that we had firework stains on our shirts. my shirt is red, so it's not too bad, but my boyfriend's shirt is white. and it's a special boba fett shirt we had made when we came in june for star wars weekends. his shirt is athletic type material (quick dry, wicking, etc).

we threw them right in the washing machine, but the stains did not come out. they are yellow/orange in color. little specs. didn't put the shirt in the dryer so as not to set the stain, so hopefully someone has encountered this and knows how to get it out.

i searched google and came up with only ways to get firework stains out of the driveway. please help if you can.

Sounds like the stains may be caused by something else. Fireworks burn out and the only thing that might land on you would be soot or ash and that wouldn't be colored.

BUT, try soaking it in oxy clean first.

Never had firework stains and never had anything on me after illuminations so not sure what that is. my sister swears by Spray and wash pretreat stick and I prefer Vivid or Tides new act ll. but onec :laundy: done sometimes that sets the stain if not pretreated sorry to say. good luck

I've always had great results with Shout gel stain remover.

ok, i guess i mis-spoke. i know it's not the actual fireworks but some sort of residue caused by the fireworks. and we both had the exact same stains that weren't there before illuminations. thank you both for your suggestions.

Are you sure there wasn't a little kid around you that sneezed with a mouthful of mustard or something? I just can't fathom anything from the fireworks would be the issue, and like a PP said, ash doesn't leave an yellow/orange mark. Also with the amount of fireworks that Disney does, you'd think someone else would have encountered this issue and said something about it.

The thing is, the components of fireworks are not the colors you see when they burn.

Take copper for example. When you're looking at it, copper is normally, well, copper in color. When it's burned, it burns with a bright green flame, but the ash (burned copper) turns to grey, and the unburned copper is still copper in color. (This is why, back in the day (not sure any more) if you burned a magazine page, it would likely burn with a green flame as the ink contained sizable amounts of copper).

Now, not sure what causes red and yellow (High School chem was awhile ago), but it's the same principle.

That's also not to say that something during the fireworks didn't cause them, just that it's unlikely that the actual debris from the fireworks is the culprit. I'd look into typical biological (mustard, ketchup) and grease types of stain removers to see if that works.

Nope, OP is right! Especially if there is a fine mist, the firework residue can leave a yellow brownish stain. (My cousin loves the occaisional fallout, gave him my shirt from last July 4th, He LOVED it!)

My stains on the white T never came out, but didn't try to hard. You could maybe try one of the Oxy Brands.

Yep. Depending on the wind, you in fact can be the "victim" of "fallout" from the Illuminations (and Wishes) shows.

Its not the fireworks themselves, or the components of the fireworks (as someone mentioned copper. the copper and other materials burn out). However, what many dont realize is, most fireworks do not fully incinerate into "nothing". they do in fact often times leave a bit of fallout (looks like ash) that is falling from the sky. typically at Illuminations the lagoon contains this, but if the wind is high it can get to the walkways.

I've been in MK during a windy edition of Wishes when Main St. USA was littered with fallout. Its rare but it does happen.

To the OP. its often just ash (and if more of a yellow, this simply means it's wet). It should wash out.

I've had a white shirt completly covered in little streaks of ash after illuminations and it washed right out. If your overly concerned you could pretreat it but I've never had it not come out of a shirt. Always washes it leaving no marks behind.

thank you to all of you, i was beginning to feel a bit crazy. but yes, last night it started drizzling halfway into illuminations, as well as a bit of wind. we will try the pre-treaters once we get home, even though we already washed. we'll cross our fingers and hope it comes out. thanks again.

Are you still at WDW?? The bath store Basin (located in DTD and also in GF) sells a stain remover soap stick. I've used it a couple times and seems to work well, and is different than those Should Gel stain stick-type products. If you are home, I think you can order this stick on the Basin web site too.
