Ok, I checked the weather on the Accuweather site which has a 15 day forecast (yeah, I know things could be different 2 weeks from now) but showers are expected on the day I plan to be there. Do the fireworks usually get cancelled if it is raining? I read elsewhere in this forum that it can get cancelled if it is windy.

Thanks again.

Ummm yeah....they are definitely cancelled in the rain.

They almost cancelled them Friday due to the wind, so I am sure they would cancel for rain.

They cancel them regularly in my experience.
They cancelled them 3 days in a row while we were there because of high level atmospheric conditions.
There was no wind down where we were, it was a beautiful day, but they cancelled them.
And not only that they didn't cancel it until 5 mins before after standing there for ages waiting.

It's much much much more likely that they'll be cancelled for wind, it hasn't rained here in forever. Even when it does rain, it's light mist that doesn't last usually.

Rain is infrequent until January, February, and March. It can happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Winds are unpredictable. Try and see the fireworks as early in your trip as possible.

It's So. Cal. Rain almost always means no fireworks

I don't know if you noticed, but... The fire dept. sends up a balloon about 20 minutes (or so) before fireworks. They have people stationed in various locations. They watch the balloon's speed and direction. If it travels in the wrong direction too quickly, they cancel the fireworks show due to safety.

If the balloon test delivers a "cancel" or a "maybe" result, they will generally wait until just before show time and do it again. They truly do make every effort possible to make the show happen. The results of the 2nd test often determines the fate of the fireworks' show.

Once the show starts, if the wind pushes the fireworks in a way that is unsafe, it can be canceled mid-show instantly.

You mentioned they canceled, "5 mins before after standing there for ages waiting." That is generally when it will happen. They wait to see if there is any way they can safely deliver the show before canceling.

When we were there in January 2008, it rained every night. Every night they set everything up like they were having the fireworks show, with all the CMs out selling light up toys and balloons, etc. If you ask them they will tell you as far as they know the fireworks will be happening even in the rain. Then of course, they cancel it 9 times out of ten. However, one night it was raining cats and dogs, so we left the park early and wouldn't you know it, that night the fireworks went off as usual. :confused3 One night, it didn't rain, but due to high winds (even though none at ground level) 5 minutes into the show they canceled it. Ya just never know...
