My mother-in-law, who wants to plan our first trip to Disney with her, says that the special things like fireworks and parades only happen during certain times of the year. Is that true? If so, what time of the year are they not happening? I know nothing about Disney, and am just trying to pick a time of year to plan a trip. I'd like to go off-peak so the lines aren't so long. Please send advice!!! Thank you!

only time they might be cancelled is if the area is in a High Fire Warning time.

They do have more seasonal parades at certain times but there is a parade everyday.

Depends on the event.

During non-busy seasons, Spectromagic may only run once or twice a week. During busy seasons it might run twice a night. Fantasmic goes from one showing to two. Illuminations happens once a night regardless of how busy or quiet it is. Parades always run at 3:00, but during busy seasons, some extra shows and events are often scheduled.

Check out the calendars on the WDW website, they will let you know when Wishes and Spectro are scheduled.

Thanks for your help. I'm pushing to go in October. My mother-in-law seems OK with that. Hopefully it'll make her as happy as the kids :)
