Fireworks is Ticking Me Off

I have a hard time stopping at 240 b/c it's always in the finale of the last level. My best score is like 248K. ANYway, what new pirates prizes? Am I gonna finally have to learn how to play that game?

~M~

Yeah, I knew I was the only person in the world who would see something wrong with stopping playing before the game is over.

Everyone needs credits. Why not play hard and see how the game would really turn out? Oh, right, it's VMK's fault.

And yeah, it is an ethics thing with me. I tried stopping. Just felt wrong. And no amount of people telling me why everyone else is doing it makes it feel right. So I'm going with my gut and when you play with me, you don't have to worry about stopping on a dime. I"ll take care of you.

Enjoy all the credits. :)

just wondering if anyone has compiled a list or keeps one in their heads of people who usually don't stop at 240,000 in fireworks. just thought it would be useful for 'sandbaggers' or less-skilled players to know when they don't have to worry too much about the 240,000 mark...

You're not the only one Llama, I too feel the same way as you do. Most of the time I get shot down by people who do sandbag so I don't ever bother to argue the point anymore. It is most definitely an ethics issue to me but many people think otherwise. If people see kids or adults acting rudely on vmk, they automatically think that's the way they are in real life; why should this be any different?

I've come to learn some of the names of those 'regulars' and usually just exit the game after the first round. Sometimes I stay just for the heck of it. What really irks me the most are those who deliberately stop at 240K and then have the nerve to say "gg". I honestly see nothing good about it, it just strikes a nerve in me.

VMK really needs to address this issue, it's a royal pain in the booty. Even if they keep the scoring system as is and just add like 40 extra credits to the winner; that would deter this behavior. It works in mansion. I suppose those with the hacking programs can go in and get those higher scores but they can also go in and stop right at 240K as well. People will not complain about 1st place getting so much credits, it improves moral to strive to do your best and so on.

My humblest apologies to those of you who this applies to, I mean no harm by it; just letting my opinion be known. ;) Add me to the list of "No need to sandbag around me". LOL

I am so sorry to hijack your thread, my apoligies to the author as well. :worship:

No harm,..just different opinions. It's a game and VMK has made it so that the end result of their game - in order to win the biggest prize - is to come as close as you can to 240K. Unless you are playing to come in 1st place - it's just a choice each player makes. I myself, am playing to get the most credits..I could care less about winning. So yeah, I stop at 240...sometimes I can't help it - like Miakoda, it's hard for me to tell where 240 is because they are coming so fast so I hit 242 or whatever and I'm first and I just got 700 credits less than the other people who stopped closer to 240 than me. When that happens though, it doesn't bother me - I say good game! :thumbsup2

In another thread I equated it to a Nascar race...If Nextel went to the drivers and said,.."OK fellas - whoever comes closest to 1,800 points at the end of the season gets crowned the Nextel Cup Champion"..you KNOW they would all be slowing up on that last lap and letting as many cars pass as they needed to, to make sure that they got the prize. :thumbsup2

OH and let me say...I played just a few times today. About 4...I was cut in one or two attempts. I played Haunted Mansion the rest of the time, in hopes that some players that might not get that high of a score would get a chance...

OH...and..lol YES, I have had that happen to me too, my score will say 89,000 and I have hit enough fireworks for it to be so - BUT, when the scoring with all the players pops up - it only gives me credit for 60K for so...I'm not sure what causes it...it's weird. Maybe it's stopping at 240K too many times...?? :lmao: kidding..

Yes i too have had problems with not getting the score that i have, it either minuses me 10,000 on points or i'm not even showed even being in the game, how i fixed it was relog to vmk it seems to help thx :cool1:

Well, it won't be a long list.

My VMK sig is "DIS girl who never stops at fireworks" so you'd think people about to play would know. I don't guess they believe me. :confused3

I was having the WORST luck with fireworks yesterday.
I would join a game, and when it started, I would not go anywhere. When this happened, it was no big deal, it's happened many times before. But then, I would enter the game, it would load, and I would be booted from the game. This got very annoying after the 3rd and 4th time. Finally, I was able to get into a game and start playing, but before I knew it, I was booted at the start of level 3. I was in first place, so it was not because of my score. In the next couple of games, the same thing happened. But this time, it was during the fourth and fifth level. ARGGGGG!!! I was so mad! :furious: (you can ask my sister, I was complaining, a lot! lol).

Finally, after about an hour of trying, I was able to finish a game. :goodvibes

I am also one of those people who stops at 240,000. Sorry, but I really need the credits. I don't agree with first place getting less credits, but what are we going to do about it? However, when I am doing really well, and have a chance of getting 280,000, I go for it. I am still on the green car quest, so if I had the slightest chance of finally beating this quest, I am going to take it. Unfortunatly, I do not get this chance too often :guilty: .

Hi, I'm Lori and I stop at 240,000 quite often. I used to feel too guilty to stop, but after considering how the game is set up to play I view it as 2 games in 1. One game is to see how many points you can score, and possibly get on the High Scores list. The second game is to see how close you can stop at 240,000. (this can be even more difficult than winning sometimes!)

I understand that there are very opposite opinions on this subject, but I don't think players should feel guilty for playing the game the way it was designed. (especially if they are in need of credits :) )

Here's an idea:

Whoever gets in the top 5 (makes it to the 5th level) gets a fairly good amount of credits (1000 or so), with no odd prizes (like less for 1st place)? It would encourage ppl to do their best and reward the best equally.

Just an idea.

I don't like doing the cut-off-at-240K but I need the credits. After all, it is almost Halloween, and just wait until Christmas...

I have not read all the posts since I last posted, just the few after it. I don't see "sandbagging" as an 'ethics' issue. I see it as trying to get credits b/c thats the only way vmk lets you in that game! (and the only way fore ME, since I stink at every other game). Every time I play there are about 3 people in the end that have just over 240k. for me, it's actually harder to stop at that score b/c you have to pay attention to your score AND hit the fireworks on the last level, instead of just doing your best. If the winner got the most credits, I would never get them. I think vmk was smart to do it like this, but I also think the winner should get a fireworks pin everytime, and the 240K + losers should get the credits :confused3 I don't know, it's just not about ethics, its about getting credits. It's not a team game, like most of the others.

Don't get me wrong, I am ethical about everything in vmk, like trades/scams, I never try to scam anyone (I even traded back with a guy I traded my HM suit to, b/c I hadn't read the newsletter and didn't know it was coming back. He told me the next day he found out it was and I offered to trade him back). The point is I don't try to screw anyone over, but when it comes to fireworks, it's the only way I can get decent credits so I am stopping at 240, and I don't think that's unethical.

~M~

Fireworks game is now a excersize in frustration, and it was the only game I was good at. I don't try quests, because they usually have fireworks in them.

I think that's the ethical problem: don't do your best = rewards

What I love are the people who taunt me when I play all the way through when they were ahead of me going into the last round. Like I was too stupid to play the game all the way to the end.

Yeah, I could have twice the amount in my bank account and I'd feel lousy about it, because it feels like cheating to me. Play the game: hit the most fireworks, let the chips fall. That's a good game.

a fast computer to play fireworks $1,999.99
an optical game mouse $50.00
someone you are playing against and thinks everyone is unethical and plays past 240,000 points? PRICELESS

well... 1300 credits anyways LOL.

I'd like to think I'm an easy going person and most that have met me would agree. I've never seen myself as an uptight prude, nor do I ever plan to be. But I honestly see no humor in making fun of someone's ethical beliefs. We've remanied civil throughtout the thread hearing each other's opinions out and it would be nice to for it to remain that way.

I've read how people have felt bad about doing it at first, that alone shows remorse. But when the credits start coming, greed comes along and you can throw that guilt out the window. It happens every day of our lives, why should vmk be any different? Though a virtual game, I tend to act the same way as I would in real life(though I don't dance around with fire all around me LOL). Since when have you ever heard of people striving to do their best at purposely losing? The matter of fact is VMK is at fault, the difference is what YOU make of it. Lots of things can be taken advantage of in the real world, it's all about how we act out and that's what makes us.

I can still remember the times when I earned all of my costumes through fireworks last October. I measely 150 credits is what we got. I was a brand new player but yet somehow managed to get all the the costumes on sale. It can be done without having to take the easy way out. I will continue to earn my credits the way it was intended. I will most definitely be able to get enough, no worries there. Have fun all, continue to do what you do best; whatever route that may be. Good luck :)

yeah, but that's vmk's fault. Whatever way they choose for us to make the most credits = what we are gonna do it we need them. Plain and simple.

I really do not think this is an enthics issue.

I have tried my best in fireworks since I first started VMK (last summer). As Halloween approaches, I have been stopping at 240,000 because I want to buy costumes and Halloween goodies, so I need credits fast.

This is a game that runs on credits. If you want something (for sale), you need credits. People are not always playing fireworks to just "play", some are playing for the credits, for which the smart thing to do is stop at 240,000 because that way you get the most credits.

For those of you who do not agree with those who stop at 240,000, the number of people doing it will go down. I know I will stop doing it, because I will not need the credits that bad (at least until Christmas comes around) and I often like to see how high I can score.

Here is the defnition of ethics I just pulled up.

ethical motive: motivation based on ideas of right and wrong
the philosophical study of moral values and rules

How could this possibly describe stopping at 240,000 points in fireworks?????

I did not make fun of anyones ethics for the record because this is NOT an ethics issue.

Ok, so you are making fun of me in general, not my ethics?

For the record, I was explaining why I don't stop, because it feels WRONG to ME to quit a game for the prize. I never called everyone unethical who feels differently from me.
