Thought the fireworks were beginning to ramp up when they announced "Thank you for visiting!" Started at 9:30pm and ended at 9:35pm. So disappointed! Overheard a few people saying "We should get our money back!" And the fireworks are now only showing on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They are really cutting back! So sad.

They are normally only Fri , Sat , Sun - only peak times do theyhappen every day. They did tho have them everyday they the 60 th celebrations but back to normal now .
I thought they would go for more than 5 mins tho

We've been so spoiled by the longer shows. Fantasy in the Sky was the regular fireworks presentation for years before the mega-spectaculars came on the scene. Is it short? Well, yes. Especially after what we've been used to in recent years. But it is a charming show. It brought back a lot of memories of watching the fireworks when we were kids. And it has helped clear up a lot of the massive congestion of people parking around the Hub area for parade spots and fireworks viewing. So I can understand the shock, but there are some positive points, too.
As the above poster said, this is the off season, so fireworks normally only show on Fri., Sat., and Sun. And we're also heading into Santa Ana winds season, so fireworks can get cancelled, lessening the chances of viewing even on those 3 days.

When we saw FitS for the first time, it was underwhelming for sure "Where are the projections?" "Where are the characters?" "Why is it so short?" were some of the thoughts that popped into our head! It's going to be a little sad having both this show and no Fantasmic, but oh well. I'm just happy that we're going to be in Disneyland! :)

Yeah, Fanatasy in the Sky is a joke. They had it showing when we were there in Feb of 2015 and it was so weak. Really embarrassing for Disney to even show it, in my opinion. Definitely don't wait around for it. We were just casually walking by when it started, planted ourselves in the hub and watched it. When it was over, my son say, "That's it? That's all?" Pretty much the sentiments of everyone who'd paid good money to see Disney present the best...and the get ZZZZzzzzz.

It's fine for the off-season.

Not if your trip is in the off-season. I expect to have the same fireworks as anyone else during the year. At WDW, they dont' give you the leftovers just because it's Ocotober or Feb. DL should certainly follow suit. Especially, as mom3rtk said, when there's no Fantasmic. AND no PtN.

I agree with the idea of it being better to make up for Fantasmic. I always travel in the off-season though, and reduced offerings/hours are par for the course everywhere.

And (since tiered pricing only applies to one day tickets) I'm pretty sure they don't offer a price break for visiting in the off season.

Are they doing the usual Christmas fireworks show during the holiday season this year?

Sounds like it, but nothing officially announced yet.

The show is in two main parts, one is the fireworks segment, which can easily be adjusted to have more or less fireworks depending on how much Disney wants to spend.

And then there is the "snow" effect.

Weather does play a main part in the shows. Too Windy, which can happen frequently here in Anaheim, will cancel the "Fireworks" segment.

If it rains, the Snow effect can be cancelled, since it is really soap bubbles, which will become slippery on the ground.

It is a not too well known fact that Disney does reduce some fireworks on slower days. And I know what is going on, since I hear them every time they go off here at home.

Don't forget, Disneyland in smack dab in the middle of neighborhoods. People are trying to sleep. You probably don't want the neighbor down the street shooting of booming fireworks when your kids have to go to school tomorrow.
WDW is out there in the middle of nothingness. They can have 3 or 4 different fireworks shows every night and noone to complain about it.
Just trying to put things in perspective.

Anyone living that close to Disneyland probably knew they shot off regular fireworks when they moved there.

I disagree.
There are those who were there before DL was. Some houses were there before DL was built, so it doesn't matter if people "should know there are fireworks" because those houses were there before Disneyland was a thing, it's also the respectful thing to do. This isn't WDW, WDW can do whatever they want with fireworks without having to worry about disrupting neighbors.

Even still, there is a city law that prevents fireworks after 10 PM, except for July 4th and New Years Eve.

That is why they have to cancel shows and can't wait until after 10 PM.

Since I live in Anaheim, I get the Disneyland Fireworks, the Angel Stadium Fireworks, and the Knott's Berry Farm Fireworks. Just part of living in a nice town :)

I'm guessing the number of people living there now who lived there when DL opened is fairly small. And getting smaller.

It doesn't matter, those houses were there long before DL was and they should and do respect those who live in the neighborhood. Someone who visits Disneyland should not take priority over those who live in the area. An amusement park is not a necessity and isn't like an airport where I would feel one should suck it up. (not saying you did say that, but i'm thinking of other things that cause a lot of noise.)
