Fireworks - have we become old fogeys?

It's 11:30 at night and the kids next door and in the neighborhood are shooting off fireworks. Not just a pop here and there - long strings of firecrackers, bottle rockets and some other loud stuff.

Now I could see a late explosion for New Years to celebrate, but these people have been shooting fireworks off since 9pm. They must have had an arsenal!

At what point would you call it too late for fireworks and do something about it?

Can you set off your car alarm? That's always kind of fun to do... :teeth: Might at least scare the little buggers especially if they are anywhere near your car. ;)

When the 4th falls on a weekday like this year, I'd say 11:00 should be the cut off. People have to get up early for work tomorrow. :)

TB.. one little kink in that plan... our cars don't have alarms. :rotfl2: I guess I could stick my head out the door and go WONK WONK WONK WONK WONK real loud. :rotfl:

 old fogey here...
That's too late, especially on a weeknight.

I'm not sure how it is there, but here you are not aloud to set of "firecrackers" or "bottle rockets". Just the "legal" type of fireworks you purchase at the stands. Also, we are only aloud to set of legal fireworks on the 4th of July. So once it hits midnight, its over. If your neighbors are setting off the illegal type of fireworks or doing it on a day other than the 4th and its bothering you, I'd call. I have over the years called the police on many neighbors for this type of thing. And I dont consider myself an old foggey either. No one should be annoyed like that. I know its a holiday, but geez, people have to work on wednesday.

Sic the dogs on them.

A pack of crazed poodles ought to get thier attention... :rotfl2:

What they are shooting off is illegal in the State of Virginia. Any firework that explodes is illegal.

Certain counties or cities will allow fireworks that shoot off sparks or make whirring noises but our country, everything is illegal. The county next to us, 8 miles away, it is legal so everyone goes over there and buys the sparklers and fountains and pinwheels.

Those I wouldn't mind as much this late, because those are all show and not much noise. What is going off now is entire strings of firecrackers and it sounds like they are putting them in containers or something to enhance the noise.

I took a peek outside and it's the nextdoor neighbors kids and some friends. It seems very unlike these neighbors so I have to wonder if maybe they aren't home and the kids friends brought the stuff in. Maybe next time I run into them I'll say to them "That was some arsenal of fireworks you shot off the other night" ;)

What really bothers me is it's been scaring the dogs for over 2 hours and Lauri isn't feeling well and it's right outside our bedroom window.

Yeah right.. they are scared of the firecrackers. :lmao:

Maybe I could sic a flock of cockatiels on them though. I can hear it now.. out of the darkness.. the flapping.. the rustling... the PRETTY BIRD PRETTY BIRD PRETTY BIRD battle cry!!!!!

I'm going to paint their faces now! Wait.. they are already wearing rouge

Our new neighbor (a widow) has several teen aged boys and they have been at it for several days already. The other night they woke me up from a sound sleep at 2:30 in the morning. They were at it until 12:30 last night. I stuck my head out the back door and yelled at them to cut it out. The only thing I accomplished there was to wake up my family.

DH has to get up early for work tomorrow so if they continue too much more I will go knock on their door and have a talk with their mother. Haven't met her yet so here is a great oppertunity. :thumbsup2

I feel your pain.

We kept dd's up late b/c we knew there would be fireworks that would wake them and freak them out. We ended up putting dd #2 up to bed and she was asleep for about 1 1/4 hrs until our neighbor 2 houses down decided to set off his fireworks.
I really didn't mind too much (all fireworks are illegal in NY although we had sparklers ....don't call the cops), but he was taking sooooooooooooooooooooo long to set them off. There would be a huge BOOM pretty colors....nothing for 1-1 1/2 min..... BOOM pretty colors....nothing 2-3 min....BOOM....
Had he set it up that the whole thing would've taken 10-15min I wouldn't care but it literally took 45-55 min to set off 10 things that lit up the sky and a few little things on the ground.

I'm afraid of them and I could've done a better job and woken up less children around the neighborhood.

Good luck getting some sleep to everyone having problems with fireworks tonight :sunny:

Oh, I wanted to add that I'm not an Old fogey, yet :teeth:

The law around here is no fireworks after 10pm. That's a laugh! It's 11:13pm here and my area is still going strong. :sad2:

We had people shooting "Canada Day" fireworks not only on the first but the second and the third. The last I recall Canada Day was on the first. I think people just like blowing things up around here. It got annoying after 11 at night.

Several years ago a neighbor called the police on my BF & I for shooting off some little ground fountains (which were completely legal in our area, bought at the supermarket), on the 4th of July... at 9pm.

I think once you use the term "old fogey" (in any context other than a joke) you may be part of the club...

:rotfl2:

Anything and everything is legal in my county in Texas. Want to buy a stick of dynomite? Come on over. They can only sell fireworks for X number of days leading up to the 4th and New Years, but you are free to set them off any time you please. Year round. Yipee.

When we moved to Texas a friendly Sheriff once gave me a bit of advice. If you kill anyone be sure to drag their body onto your property... seems it is a-ok to shoot someone, so long as they are on your property. I am thinking about getting a sign that says that to post above my door bell...

The fireworks are driving me crazy and it's not even 10pm yet. Oh yeah and I'm 21. So I'd have to say no, you haven't become old fogeys. ;) Fireworks are just annoying. (unless they're Disney fireworks) :)

It's illegal in NJ and we've been hearing them all night. Though, I have to say around 11:30 stopped. Had it continued longer, it definitely would have frosted my cookies, you know? And I'm 26. Past midnight and Definitely past one o'clock, I probably would have gotten on the phone.

Its the 4th of july for crying out loud. Independance day! let them have fun ! and as long as they are not harming you in any way (other than going to bet a little later) dont report them.

This is probably just beause I work nights and am used to being up till 5am or so, but I figure it's just one night a year, so let em have fun.
