I came across an old post that talks about seeing the fireworks from the storybook canal boats. Is there a bad view from the boats? Is it worth trying to see it there? I'm assuming this isn't the best view, so this would be a second viewing during our trip. Is the ride busy, and is it hard to get timed onto the right boats?

I think this would depend on which fireworks show is running. If it is "Remember, Dreams Come True," then the boats would not be a good view. That show is meant to be seen from the hub, and the castle is used for projections. For "Magical" or the holiday fireworks, the boats might be an OK view, but you will miss Dumbo and Tinkerbell for "Magical" and the snow for the holiday fireworks. Since you said this would be the second viewing for your trip, that might not be a problem. In that case you could just ask the Storybook CMs when you should time your ride.
