Fireworks cancelled often

They usually release a balloon close to the castle (kinda behind it towards BTMRR) to check the wind. The night they cancelled on us we could see it go up and it was not going straight up so after a bunch of delays and that we figured it out just before they announced it. It's been so windy in NorCal but I'm hoping for firework weather in SoCal for you guys

It has been so windy this spring!! Really too bad about the fireworks, it is sad to hear about all the PP having a hard time with missing the show. :(
Yes, they use a balloon to test the wind. If the balloon gets swept away, it's a no go. Also, remember when there was a fire in the trees near IASW a few months ago?? I'd imagine they have been extra cautious since then as well. :duck:

yeah, unfortunately it's not unusual for them to be cancelled. i always tell people to watch them on their first night (assuming they'll have multiple night) so if they do cancelled you still have another shot to see them.
we were there for 3 days last summer right after the 60th. my plan was fireworks on night one, world of color on night two, and fantasmic on night 3. fireworks were cancelled on night one, so i was going to try to watch them on night 3, but then changed my mind and tried to watch them the 2nd night- cancelled again. on night 3 i decided to just watch world of color, and of course the fireworks went off without a hitch. it's always hit or miss.

Crossing my fingers for our trip beginning 5/8! I will definitely follow the advice to try and see them our first night.

I grew up in So Cal and IIRC March/April and Sept/Oct were always prone to be windy months. Much more so than the rest of the year. I think we're noticing the cancellations so much more because normally there aren't weekday fireworks during those months.

Also good to bear in mind that it can be perfectly still at ground level and still cranking at altitude.

I'm really hoping they aren't cancelled tonight. We tried on Sunday and Monday (both cancelled). Tuesday we were at the Angels game and they actually happened (dammit!). Yesterday they were cancelled (but we weren't in the parks). Tonight is really our only chance to see them, as Friday we'll be trying to see WOC. Fingers are crossed! (But I'm not holding my breath :( ).

Quoting myself... So happy that the fireworks happened last night and we got to see them!!! :mickeyjum

We were at World of Color last night and when the flames went off I thought, 'there goes the big black fire ring.' Then we heard the fireworks go off as we were leaving the park, so I was happy for the guests who got to see them.

Hopefully, they go off again tonight.

Your hopes were answered, fireworks went off again tonight.
It was quite windy during the day, but the winds died down when the sun set.

I'm glad! One of our DISer friends from Orlando is out here with her daughter and they wanted to watch the fireworks last night.
