Hi Disboarders! I am going this year for the first time with a little one. My DS will be 15 months when we are in disney. Should I take something to cover his ears during the fireworks or should he be fine?

Thanks

Ear protection is ideal since you never know how close you might end up to loud music or the fireworks but if you actively avoid you’ll be fine - we’ve never used any on our kids but arnt huge up close and personal with the fireworks people.

I noted that you'll be staying at CBR this August according to your signature and I don't know if you can see any fireworks from that locale.

For the first firework display @ WDW with your little one I'd visit a resort where you can see and hear them and avoid the parks. At the hotels around the Boardwalk, you can hear and see fireworks and I've noted that the display is loud enough to walk a sleeping body up. At the GF there is an area near the marina just outside the Gasparilla Island Grill that people gather at to view the display and I don't recall a lot of excessive noise. The other gathering area is the porch of Narcoossee's.
Both areas would be less crowded than being w/i MK. Taking the bus to GF? Walking to the front of the bus and passing through the service area to the left of the Convention Center is a quicker way to get to the marina. Or take a boat into the landing and view at the landing, or Narcoossee's, or walk up the path and make a right at Sugarloaf to access marina seating. Can't think of any easy to relate shortcuts from the monorail.

@ Poly, you have a partial view of the MK fireworks that can be viewed from the beach or some seating at 'Ohana; don't recall the sound being particularly loud there either. It's also a great viewing area to see the Electric Water Parade. The only sound for that is via the speakers on the beach and it's all music; don't think you can hear it @ 'Ohana but could be wrong.

I don't think ear plugs are needed unless your LO is sensitive to sound.
HTH.

Depends on the kid. We never used them, but if your child is sensitive or you feel you want them, go for it.

Our little one couldn't stay up late enough at that age, so DH and I would take turns going back to the resort with him at bedtime while the other one stayed out.

At age 10 and 18 both girls still refuse to get up close with fireworks so we eat at Ohana for 2 dinners during th MK fireworks, plus the pipe in the music.

We never used anything for our kids and they did great. You can get a spot further down main street by the entrance and it is not so loud.

We were just there and watched the MK fireworks, our daughter is 16 months and the noise didn't bother her in the least with no hearing protection.

our 18 month old was fine but we are buying some for our 10 month old.

Whether your 15 month old toddler will like the fireworks or cry is anyone's guess. However, as far as safety goes, I would absolutely buy a pair of children's ear muffs. Babies' hearing is way more sensitive than adults (that's why children's headphones can only go up to a certain decibel range), so I would plan to have hearing protection. We bought ours on Amazon (Snug Kids Earmuffs/Hearing Protectors) and don't have any complaints. I would rather have those than risk damage to my kid's hearing. Our DD is almost 4, and she still wears them. We'll be in Disney next February (she'll be almost 5), and we plan to still have her wear them for fireworks.

The sound really scared my nephew from about age 2-4. Baby care centers in the parks do provide foam ear plugs for free. I wish I had known this when he was little hahaha.
