Wow.........I have never felt so horrible 24 hours before leaving for the Fort.

My sister and her family got to the Fort yesterday. When they checked in, my sister asked about firewood and they quoted her the price and told her to call when she wanted it delivered. We've been going for over a decade and we always get wood delivered to our site during the colder months with no problem.

My sister called the front desk this morning and I cannot tell you the horrible treatment she received when she asked for the firewood. She had several people tell her she was wrong and that firewood has never been delivered to the sites. After she told them about being told the prices at check in, they told her sternly "we do not sell firewood."

I just got off the phone with the front desk. After the person was rude to me about how they don't sell it, I asked to speak with the manager. I told her that we've ordered and had delivered firewood at the Fort @ 1/2 dozen times. She said we've never done that. In other words, you're a liar. I asked to speak to a supervisor. A woman, whom I'm sure was not the supervisor, came on to tell me that they are full and they only deliver firewood to group camping. I told her that was fine if there was some kind of policy change, but I've always gotten it there and no one ever said it was an issue. It just got delivered with a smile.

She must have cut me off 4 times. Now I know to bring our own, but I'm so disappointed in how rude not just one, but several CM's have been in the last hour......even insinuating we were liars about past firewood purchases.

We check in @ noon tomorrow. I hope the manager is there. I've never, ever complained about anything Disney before.......but I will this time.

We are Frank, but we've just never thought we needed to before. It's a space issue in our trailer.....between the golf cart and the bikes, and the "Fort approved" fireplace.....there's little room. I guess I'm just disappointed in the way I was talked to.....the only thing she had to say was "So sorry in the way you were talked to, but we no longer deliver to sites or you must have had an exception" or whatever. Instead, the "supervisor" treated me worse than the CM. I guess I'm shocked at the way it was handled. First negative experience in over 10 years and makes me wonder if things are changing........in a bad way in terms of customer service.

1) Very confusing.
2) Very.
3) I have worked the Concierge Desk at FW since 2005.
4) With exception to the group tent area (Creekside Meadow), I can't remember wood deliveries.
5) Not saying it didn't happen, but I personally haven't seen it.
6) And, in asking, no one else knows of wood delivery currently, other than Creekside.

NOTE: Creekside is made for group camping, such as Boy Scout Troops. Creekside has ZERO amenities.
No phone. No cable. No TV. No electric. No Internet. (Think: Gilligan's Island). Only extras they have
are a bath house, some picnic tables and a water outlet/spigot.

We had it delivered as recently as March of this year. $25 for 1/2 load and it was delivered by the white security truck this last time. I couldn't believe the care she took while stacking it. It really could have been an exception for us all these years. But they put the charge on our bill everytime.

Like I said, it wasn't the outcome.....it was the process. We'll bring our own firewood from now on. I have no problem with it. Just wish it was handled better. And I'm not the only person who has had it delivered to our site. Someone commented on another board getting it delivered to Loop 800 in October before Halloween. So....it does happen......just must be exceptions being made from time to time.

Just a thought but isn't bringing firewood from outside the area a major no no.

In the PA state parks we go to there are always advising not to bring your own wood due to the spread or insects.

But anyway hasn't it only been a few years that they even allowed burning at campsites with very strict guidelines on the design of the portable fire pit and even still they greatly discourage it.

But OP I have always heard you can't buy firewood at FW. So I'm with Rusty and very :confused3.

It's also my understanding that you cannot take your own firewood into the Fort, as mentioned above , because of the danger of infestations from non-native things. It doesn't take a very big infestation in a semi-tropical environment to cause a spread that can never be recaptured. (Think Burmese Pythons and whatever that stuff was that used to grow between campsites.) I have never heard of buying firewood at the Fort, but it seems like it might be available at some of the nearby convenience stores (not the Trading Posts).

I'm sorry to hear you might have been treated in a less than friendly way by CM 's at the front desk. We have had very good relations from them in the 15 years or so we have gone there.

Add me to the list if those who have never heard of wood being delivered at the Fort.

Also, we camp regularly in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. In all of the states you are asked not to bring in wood from other areas.

You can't move wood from state to state. The OP lives in Fl, so no problems.

I believe The Fort needs to get their ducks in a row. They are all over the place.

honestly never camped at FW- we stay in the cabins- but i swear i saw something about people have gotten wood delivered before- i didn't pay too much attention since it didn't apply to me.

Poked around and sure enough I'm not crazy and neither was the OP:

HELPFUL TIP: The Fort will deliver firewood to Guests who have an approved fire pit. Contact the Front Desk. For a photo of roughly what you get for $24, see this thread from January 2013.

the thread is here

and even has pictures of the men in the white dump truck delivering and stacking the wood.

and here's the quote from that post:

You can tell that's an official Fort operation. Two guys, big truck. To do the work that one guy could do on a golf cart.

Since I have to know everything about the Fort, I asked the guys what they were doing.

They said they were delivering firewood.

I asked who could have firewood delivered.

They said anyone.

As long as you have an approved fire burner.

I asked them how much it cost.

They said the order they just delivered went for $24.
...
I asked how do guests order firewood.

They said call the front desk.

So there you go.

odd....

opps- apparently i can't post a link to another forum?

doesn't seem to be very friendly to the fort. ;)

if you google
firewood delivery at fort wilderness
you'll find the post i quoted above, another one at tripadvisor, and yet another Disney blog/ tips website that mentions it too.

I wonder if the other site just picked up info from the first post?

the trip advisor one isn't clear if the person actually ordered themselves or is merely complaining that Disney charges "$25" for it.

trip advisor and the one i posted above are from Jan/Feb 2013
