fire smoke smell at AKL & WL

I was wondering if you could tell me if there is any smoky smell at either AKL or WL? I would love to stay at either hotel but I have severe allergies to wood smoke and I remember reading about fire-pits at AKL and a smoky smell at WL. Can someone clue me in as to the smoke smell situation at each hotel?

At WL you can smell some wood smoke in the lobby where the fireplace is located but it is not strong or heavy. I don't recall smelling any wood smoke in the north wing where our room was last Dec.

I don't remember any smokey smells at AKL (but I could be wrong) ... you can definitely smell the food at Boma in the lobby though.

They stopped burning wood in the big WL fireplace a few years ago. When we took a tour of the lodge they said they stopped burning the wood because the fire was to hot and it destroyed the firebrick.

When we first stayed at the WL the wood smell from the fireplace was very obvious. The smells in the lobby now, are probably from WCC.

Just back from AKL - I was just thinking about the wonderful smells while walking around the lodge. I wouldn't describe it as "wood smoke" but it does smell like food cooking from Boma. I did not notice smoke smells from the fire pit or fireplace in the lobby. Just wonderful food cooking smells!

There is a definite smokey smell at AKL and I love it. It's not heavy though.
