I normally do not do trip reports, seems no one reads them but here goes.
Amtrak to Kissimmee, arrive 3 hours late, no big deal, and car service is there to haul us away. Grocery stop in route with a liquor store next door and we're good to go. Arrive at WL, welcome home, last 10 stays have been there, and check in goes smoothly, and off to our room, excellent, courtyard pool side, 4th floor, perfect. Bell man arrives with all our stuff, he was from a town 20 miles from where we're from, go figure. We load the fridge, change into our swimsuits, load the little cooler with some beers and head to the pool. Heaven on earth, so great to drink in the atmosphere of the WL pool.
Since we have AP's, we decide to give MK a shot early afternoon on a Saturday. Not too bad, easy to break into the vacation mode and just being in the MK is another piece of heaven. Our ritual for the first evening is boating to FW, Crockett's Tavern for a pizza and pitcher of beer and back to the pool before bed, we're finally here.
Not to bore anyone reading this report, I'm just going to stick to the highlights. WL was its own beautiful resort, no place better. Never any problems or waits on buses or boats. Food court food, really not that bad. Overall view of the parks, we were there August 30-Sept 8 and weekdays, hardly a sole in any park but both weekends very crowded. We walked on to just about everything, had a restroom cleaning person give my wife 2 fast passes for Toy Story Mania in DHS, god send because the wait was like 2 hours. Weekends we did the strolling and gift shops due to the crowds and did all the attractions we wanted on the weekdays.
We do not do dining plans, too much food and do not like schedules vacations around eating. We had no reservations and got in everywhere we wanted. We enjoy the Scat Cat Club at POFQ alot, they also have a half way decent meatball sandwich and we then boat to DTD to monkey around until we bus back to WL.
I bugged our daughter to come and see us, she and SIL are from Ohio too but work and an extra business wouldn't allow it this trip. Sil was flying down Thursday, we arrived on Saturday, to move his parents back up to Ohio and was driving the rental truck and helping pack and said he might stop in to see us one day, he was on a 3 day stay before driving back and I said he ought to let our daughter come too but their business required someone to be home. Well, our daughter would call everyday at lunchtime to see how we're doing, she's a huge Disney person, and we'd chat and tell her what's going on. Thursday, we're at the pool and she calls and talks to wife and she says she has to call us back, got another call and asks where we are which we tell her at the pool. Wife and I are sitting at a table by the pool, cell phone rings and its her, wife is chatting to her and looks up and our daughter is standing in front of her, talking to her on her phone and my wife doesn't recognize her. Surprise visit, I was shocked, surprised and thrilled she came, only for a day and a half, she flew out early Saturday morning but we had a ball, SIL drove over Thursday night and we all went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner, some surprise and excellent meal, made our trip.
We checked out and boarded the train in Kissimmee, no problems from hurricanes and had a great ride home, comfortable and cozy, up graded to a roomette in Jesup Ga , good in route price had dinner and arrived in DC early, go figure. long layover in DC to catch the west bound train to Ohio, 7 hours but enjoyable. Long that train, its a sightseer, double decker and riding high seems like more room around the seats. We get to Alliance Ohio, 30 minutes late around 2 am and drive home. All in all a great trip but even though September seems to be the least amount of guests in WDW, the hurricane season at peak is too much to handle any more. They was one either, north of Orlando, west, east and south threatening the whole stay. We got caught in Wilma one trip and it canceled Amtrak for 3 days, which came at the end of our stay so we moved from the Poly to POP to wait it out, real pain and not alot of fun not knowing when you're getting out of Florida. We'll go back to the November, early December trips from now on.
