When did WDW start doing the finger scans for tickets? I dont think they did this in 2003 during our last vacation. What did they use prior to that? Anything? I know Universal used to do signature verification, but did Disney do anything before, or did you just pray you didnt lose your ticket?

They just started finger scanning with the new Magic Your Way tickets. Before that they just scanned annual pass holders. :)

I believe they will slow things down at the gates during peak season and busy times of the week. There have already been grumblings about it on this board. CM's have been told not to discuss the problem with guests when they complain. They are waving some people through even if the scanner does not work. We'll see how long this lasts.

The Magic Your Way tickets and the biometric finger scanning for these passes went into effect 1/2/05

Well, we were scanned this past trip (Feb 2005) and we were using 7-day park hoppers. Its looks like everybody was being scanned when we were there, no matter what ticket.
I believe it also has to do with fast passes, as the DF and I also mistakenly brought some old 4 day hoppers with us the first day at MK. We accidentally put one of these through a fast pass and it spit it back saying this wasnt the ticket we'd used for park entry.

The Fastpass thing has nothing to do with the fingerscan. It has always been that way. It prevents anyone from entering the park and snapping up multiple Fastpasses using a fistful of unused park passes. If the ticket was not used to gain entry to the park that day, you cannot use it to get a Fastpass.

I heard that they were not making children under a certain age do the finger scan with the MYW tickets. Is this true?

Children under 10 years old using child tickets do not have to use the finger scan.

We were just there from 2/13 and 2/18 and it did cause a backup at the lines. The worst point was at MK, where one of the lines did not have a CM, and the person in line couldn't get the finger scan machine to work so no one could go through.

I had read on these boards that the finger scan does sort of a measurement of the fingers, not a fingerprint......so maybe they dont scan the younger kids because they figure they'll be growing??? Just a shot in the dark (doesnt claim to be a genius :goodvibes )

What finger do they use?
You insert your index and middle fingers into the scanner (in the shape of a 'V'). There's sort of a bar in the middle of the scanner that you squeeze your index and middle fingers.

An easy way to remember is you make the peace sign with your right hand.

I've always wondered if these actually do anything. My brother swears that he and his wife had no problem using another couple's APs. He's convinced they are there just for effect.

lol, maybe its just to make you think twice before using another person's ticket....you know "Let your GUILT conscience be your guide!" :flower:
