Fine Facial Hair?

Ok, this might seem like a weird post, but here goes--

Recently I've noticed a lot of facial hair. Its very fine and short, almost invisible, except when I look closely at it in a mirror. Perhaps I'm worrying about it too much (after all, how many people hold up a magnifying mirror to my face?). However, it does concern me. Has anyone else had such a problem, and how to deal with it? I've considered shaving it, but I've read that the regorwth is thicker and darker, setting up a vicious cycle. Is there some sort of cream I could buy? I don't mean the cream to lighten it, its already as light as it could get. Is there some sort of cream to remove facial hair that won't irritate the skin or produce a thicker re-growth?
well, thanks for any advice!

I have excess hair (although it's not as fine) and finally was tested for PCOS which is a hormonal problem. I actually had the test done because I was having a hard time getting pregnant. I finally ended up getting pregnant without medicine help but my PCOS can't be treated until after the baby is born though. I think there are many many reasons for why facial hair (or any other hair for that matter) develops. If you're really concerned I'd talk to your doctor.

Don't shave!!! It's horrible - it will grow back thicker & darker. I use Nair facial hair remover cream. It works really well and doesn't smell bad. I do it maybe once every couple of weeks.

Well, don't shave - that's for sure. And unless others can see it, hold out on plucking it too because once you start you pretty much never stop.

Talk to your OB and have them run some blood tests. Your hormone levels can be off. Birth control pills can help (levels out the estrogen). And there is a cream that will help called Vaniqa. You have to use it every day, though. And if you stop, the growth starts again. The better bet is to make sure your hormones are in balance.

Also, don't worry about it so much! It's more common than you think.

I have PCOS & tried Vaniqa & it worked, but was expensive & not covered by our insurance plan.

Now I just use Veet facial hair remover, it works in like 3 minutes & doesn't hurt my skin at all, just makes it feel like I've had a an oatmeal scrub or something.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably try VEET or the other otc cream recomended here. I read 0n WebMD that its ok to shave facial hair -- obviously written by a male doctor!

I also have PCOS and use a medication called Spironolactone (and Glucophage to help regulate my insulin resistance). It has helped tremendously. I ran out once and didn't think I'd get it refilled until I noticed the hair growing back as thick as before!

It didn't remove the hair, just made it less thick. So I get my face waxed about once a month.

Ahhhh, hormone imbalances...gotta love em! LOL

I use Veet or pluck. I wouldn't shave. I have PCOS as well..seems as if it's becoming more common. Just wanted to throw out there that since I have been doing Nutrisystem, I have lost 60 lbs (so far) and it regulated me again..didn't do a thing for the facial hair though.

What is Nutrisystem? Did your doctor recommend it? My doctor told me after the baby is born we'll start treating the PCOS but if I can avoid meds I'd like to.

There is also a product available at the beauty supply called Surgi cream. They have a hair remover and also one that just lightens. Very gentle for skin made for the gentle spots on your face. Just be very careful when applying anything to the face. If you start feeling a burning and break out in a sweat remove immediately and apply cold cloth. Good luck.

I took metformin for a few months, but it gave me bad leg cramps and it "didn't agree with me" if you know what I mean (trying not to be too graphic). I found out I had PCOS after I had my 2nd DD. I just stopped going to the endo. I gained 50 more lbs after I had DD (only gained 14 with her and lost it, at first). YOu can check out Nutrisystem at their web site www.nutrisystem.com. It honestly works if you follow it and it is so easy. You can register for free and just check out the Community and bulletin boards. It's tied to the Glycemic Index and Diabetics can even do it. If you want more info on it you can PM me if you want.

With the PCOS..I still have some chin hairs and do break out from time to time on my face, but I can take other things for that.

My PCOS seems to be tied to my weight gain since I had my 1st DD 10 yrs ago. (Was on the pill for 5 yrs afterwards and it masqueraded the symptoms). So I was told to lose weight. Nutrisystem is just for people looking to lose weight (and learn how to eat better and the right portions), but it helped me with AF. PCOS is a lot of times tied in to Insulin Resistance and Nutrisystem goes by the glycemic index. I wish I knew about it before I got pregnant..it would have been a lot easier to GET pregnant. HTH
