Fine Dining for children?

What do you think? I would personally love if the kids menu was abolished and sent back to wherever it came from. I'm all for kid portion size but please for the love of god get rid of the chicken nuggets.

I agree that there sould be more healthy choices at more places for the kids. But what is awesome about America is that you have a choice. YOU can choose not to get those chicken nuggets and at the same time I can choose to get them. Isn't America great?

Ehh America is ok. It's better than some of the other options out there and it's the evil I know. Sometimes too many choices isn't a better thing and sometimes here in America we pride ourselves so much on "the right to choose" that shoot ourselves in the foot.

Yes we can choose not to get DD that but at the same time is it fair that I have to pay more for my daughters meal because there isn't a kid sized one available but that because someone-else only feeds their child that stuff they pay the more appropriate price?
Now I'm not saying we don't pay it I'm just pointing out the unfairness.

I will not get my kids those gross excuse for kids chicken nuggets at Disney. My DD's hate them. When we've done the dining plan the last couple years, the cast members have always happily substituted the adult chicken fingers for the lame excuse of chix nuggets which always made my DD7 happy since she has a healthy appetite and a couple of puny chix nuggets does not fill her up. This year we are going to skip the dining plan and see how that goes and I will happily pay out of pocket for DD7 to eat the chix fingers as opposed to the chix nuggets or even better yet in the places that have the 1/2 chix we will get that and split it.

I never understand all the anguish about the kids meals that goes on her on the DIS. Yes they have the same "kids" meals every where BUT every restaurant we ate in from QS to TS all had their own unique menu items and meals. In every restaurant there was always at least one meal that correlated to the style of place they were.

I have some kids who will only eat kids meals (actually, they're much less picky now that they're older), and some kids would wouldn't eat a nugget if you paid them. All were raised the same (by parents who will not touch a nugget). I have one who insists on ordering mac and cheese whenever we go out, and yet has a field day when we order fancy sushi (mostly raw).

You pay for what you get. It's not just size, but also quality. If you want to pay the kid's meal price, then you are paying for the quality of that food. If you want better choices, then you will have to pay more. I can't go to a top end steakhouse and expect them to serve me a filet for the price I'd pay for a hamburger at McDonalds.

Most of the QS meals at WDW are large enough I can share with DD. Often I will order one meal plus an extra side and that's plenty for the both of us.

I think getting rid of the kids menu is a GREAT idea! We aged DD7 up to 10 on the DP last trip becuaser she HATES the kids menu. She got way too much food a lot of the time, but at least it was a decent meal.

I didn't have this experience, particularly at QS places. Most of the places with good burgers DON'T have a burger on the kids menu for instance. At starrnig rolls, they have great sandwiches and wraps, but the only kids meal option is a PBJ uncrustable.

And then you feel bad about wasting food because there really isn't anyway you can take a little leftover bag back to your room.

I know this only works price wise if you are on the meal plan, but my kids got a ham sandwich and the sushi for lunch. On the meal plan, it doesn't matter.

I know my DD 9 was very annoyed at 50s Primetime because they don't have a fried chicken leg on the kids' menu. She loves fried chicken but not chicken nuggets.

When my dd was younger, I'd order an appetizer or extra sides and share my entree (usually she'd get the meat) with her. For the price, it was a good alternative.

I remember struggles when DS was younger because he's a foodie, but there's seldom a provision for feeding the good food in a kid sized portion. We generally solved it by sharing my meal and adding an appetizer.

Actually, you got lucky. It DOES matter on the meal plan. All CS credits are lumped, but your card says xAxC on it for how many adults and children in the party. The CM can tell you that you must order a kid's meal for the children. We had that happen several times on our second trip, and that contributed to our decision to age up for the last trip.

This topic seems to be coming up a lot lately for some reason.

My response is always the same--there is variety, but you have to seek it out. Things like pasta and wheat pizza and salmon and a salad with chicken are all on kids' menus at WDW. It is just that Disney provides what the vast majority of kids eat. And more kids eat chicken nuggets than do salmon.

The Dining Plan is not a one size fits all thing. If it works for you great, if not, that is fine too. I don't think fair fits into the equation anywhere. Especially for a charge of only $12 a day!

I just bought no more than 3 *usually 2* adult CS meals ~ we had 3 adults *I aged DS up from 9 to 10* and 1 kid *DD 6* I didn't buy a single kids CS meal, we split 2 *sometimes 3* adults CS meals.

I see how that would work. There are die hard sticklers for rules here that wouldtell you that you HAVE to use kids credits for kids meals, but I don't see a problem.

It's not the die-hard sticklers on the DIS who tell you that, it's the computers at WDW. Or at least that was my experience. At our last TS meal, we were told we were one adult credit short, and it turned out a child's meal had been entered as an adult meal. If I remember right. It's been a while.

Anyway. I think having more varied options on the kids' menu is a good thing, but I'm certainly not calling for "fine dining" for kids.

If where you are eating has a kid's menu, your child on the dining plan is supposed to order from it.:thumbsup2 If a CM allows otherwise, then consider it some extra pixie dust. But I woudn't let that affect if I bought the plan or not, becasue you cannot count on it happening.

This is precisely the reason, I opted NOT to get the DP, even if it was free, I don't know if we'd opt for it. Since my DD7 began 'ordering' in restaurants, I left the options open. I never pushed the children's menu. Often we share or she will get a side from the adult menu and a salad. We also don't go for dessert much, especially with a meal. I'm glad she isn't a fan of highly processed foods. If she just wants a salad, then that's what we get her. I feel your pain.
