One of the things (morals if you will) about Finding Nemo was that fish don't like to be kept in a tank. So why did everyone run out and but little clown fish and fishtanks?

For the same reason that people ran out and bought dalmations when 101 Dalmations came out...because their kids say, "Mommy, can I pleeeeeeeeease have one?"

Is that really true? Wow, I hate to think of what happened after The Lion King came out! ;)

Did that really happen?:p

Maybe they will buy them and set them free?;)

Well for fish, it's not such a big deal. Actually fish are quite beautiful and calming and can be a nice lesson in taking care of something for a child...something a little more minor than a dog.

Unfortunately, dalmations rarely fare so well. They are extremely hard to train and usually end up unwanted in a pound. This is why I always cringe when a cute dog is featured in movies or on TV (like Eddie on Frasier). Because a dog is a boatload of work and I can't stand to see the way they are tossed aside by people when they aren't as cute and fluffy as they are on TV or in a movie.

ETA: it really did (and does) happen. With rabbits at Eastertime, with any cute dog in a movie or on TV.

This thread reminds me...it's time to change the water in Ariel's tank

A better question might be:

Why didn't everyone flush their fish down the toilet to set them free???

Don't fret too much! I believe most of the 'clown fish' people went out and bought were store 'conceived' (for lack of a better word?), which means they never actually got to SEE the ocean, they weren't plucked out of the ocean from their family and plopped into someone's tank. Rather they were plucked out of the store's tank and plopped into someone's tank. :p

tricia.
