Finding early spot on route for Spectromagic & eating there?

I'm beginning to put my itinerary together for our trip to WDW in late JAN/early FEB. We are planning to catch Spectromagic parade and Wishes fireworks on the WED night of our trip. Last year we made ressies and ate at the Plaza restaurant before the parade, but the service took a while longer than we expected and we almost didn't get a spot on Main Street. This year I was thinking of finding a spot on the route early (possibly the town square area on Main Street so we could get ahead of most of the crowd upon exit?) and sending my hubby to get our family CS meals to eat as a "picnic" there while we wait for the parade to start. I'm wondering though, would we be allowed to do that or will we be "shooed" along? :confused3 I have 3 y/o twins, and I really want to try to get a "front seat" view of the parade for them.

TIA for your thoughts...

I don't think you would get shooed along. People were sitting upwards of two hours when I was there last month. (not sure exactly why since we got great front row seats about 20 minutes prior) Would you consider being further along Main Street a little and being in a place where your DH could bring Casey's? My twins loved the hot dogs and fries!

kj2mom---I have to admit we haven't let them eat hotdogs yet as I'm afraid they might choke on them. (I'm such a worrywart, I know). I wouldn't mind sitting further up Main Street, though. I just want to try to be a little ahead to get to the bus stop for ASMovies before the majority of people get there.

I know people often sit ahead of time on the route to get a spot for the parade. I just wasn't sure about whether we'd be able to sit there and eat a meal, you know? Do other people do that? I didn't really notice when we went before because we were inside a restaurant. :confused3

Will Spectromagic run in January? We were there in November and no parade, just Wishes at 8:00. We were there on a Friday night.

I think you'll have to decide depending on how crowded it is & how early you grab a spot. Would I try it in July with wall to wall people? nope, but during a slightly less busy time of the year when you will have a lot more "elbow" room between your family and the next, it should be fine.

We did this in Oct 04 (only time we watched Spectro from Main St) and we got Casey's to eat. Never had a problem with it. Casey's also has bite sized corn dogs your twins may like.

Other counterservice ideas, Watch spectro from the hub near Liberty Square, there is a good CS right inside Liberty Square.

They don't do it every night. We were there in early November and they did it 3 or 4 times that week. We caught it twice. It was nice because my son goes to bed early and Spectro was at 7pm which was great for us! We're going back in late Jan/early Feb and it'll be the same thing. I think one night Spectro is at 6pm! Very early but great for us. We'd like to catch it two nights.

As for the OP, I think it's a great idea! I got a spot in Frontierland with my DS and my DH went into a shop in Frontierland and got us snacks (cookies, fudge) and we ate that while waiting.

Yes they do. When I watch Spectro, I like to bring pizza from Pinocchio's back to eat. I actually bring it all the way down to Main Street by the Barber Shop.

I hadn't thought of pizza from Pinnochio's ----- ooooooooooooo----that would be goooood!

Spectromagic will be at 7pm on the WED, then they won't do it again until the SAT. The weekday was definitely less crowded last time.

Thanks for everyone's help! :cheer2:

I am going the same time as you. I think, since there are only two nights that the parade will be shown, that Wed night would be less crowded than Sat night.

We usually go to Peco's Bills and eat outside by the fence. Then, when the parade starts, we stand on the stools and watch the parade over the fence. They never let people sit or stand in front of the fence, so you have a clear view of the parade! :thumbsup2

We were outside Peco's Bill as well. They have great burgers, not sure about a kids menu. There was a small stone wall there that myself and my son actually stood on (it's really wide) since no one was behind us when the parades started.
Main Street is always crowded for parades, and Frontierland just seems a little easier. Didn't have any problem with someone trying to grab our spot or push us out of the way. We had a great view above everyone else!
