y'all..there is an article on msnbc that you should probably read the whole thing of, it is from newsweek. Here is the link:

http://www.msnbc.com/news/917915.asp?cp1=1

Basically, it details Disney's woes of late, and the responses that Eisner has been making. It is a basically positive piece, but one thing that has me somewhere between puking and having a broken heart was this:

Meanwhile, Eisner wants to extend the lives of Disney’s older characters by reanimating some classics for a new look. Imagine a 3-D Peter Pan soaring over a digitized London.

I guess when you run out of cheapquals to make, you can just redo the originals in cgi. Please, please, please, no.

Why not just Colorize Steamboat Willie while you are at it?

Is this any different then the evolution of Mickey over the years ? How many versions have there been ? I don't have a problem with - for lack of a better term- modernizing some of the old classics no more then I mind seeing colorized versions of old black and white movies. The product Disney puts out has to have an appeal to the cutting edge age kids are growing up in now.

Colorizing B&W movies made me think.... I think I don't mind the ones that I've always seen colorized -- I can't imagine White Christmas or An Affair to Remember in B&W. However, I'm pretty loyal to classics I love in B&W -- Casablanca and Holiday Inn, for example.
I guess I would fall the same way with the Disney classics. Because I've seen them, well, the way they are, I would be against revitalizing them in CGI. If I hadn't, like some of today's kids, I wouldn't mind so much.

But aren't there any NEW stories out there?? Any? C'mon, other movie studios and animation companies (including Pixar) are coming up with new movie ideas! Hire some good story guys!!

You mean new stuff like Batman,Superman,Spiderman,X-Men, The Hulk, Star Trek,etc.... Look at it this way, I wish I'd never thrown away my old clothes, they're all back in style.

I know what you mean about B&W movies...some I will always want B&W, but for someone whose never seen the original I think the colored version would be more appealling.

Sorry, Europa, I didn't see the earlier thread - maybe the moderators can combine them together - sorry

OK, I concede your point on the superheros. ;) And yeah, there's a lot of sequels out this year. But still, Pixar's been very successful with new ideas. The Matrix was a new idea that really worked. What's his name, the guy who did "A Mighty Wind" -- he's got original ideas. I think there's story-guys in Hollywood just bursting with ideas... They just need the right medium.

While it's a very good movie, I don't think that a re-make of Spinal Tap with folk singers counts as an original idea...

It's not redoing the stories that so depressing to me, it's taking perfectly good films and redoing them for no particular reason. What's wrong with Peter Pan just as it is? The Star Trek and superhero cases either didn't have decent movies to begin with or the stories were new. Would this be the further adventures of Peter Pan, i.e. Peter Pan III? Or would Disney use the same exact story, characters, etc.?
