I am interested in renting points for an upcoming vacation to disneyworld. I've never done this before. How much personal information do you exchange between the renter and the rentee. In other words I've read within some of these postings that the dvc owner and the person interested in renting points, make arrangements to agree upon the type of rental, time of rental and etc needed. After all that information is arranged I understand that the owner will call disney to reserve the date.

But what type of financial information will I have to disclose to the owner? I'm I required to give credit card info, money order ..how do I pay for the trip? And I'm told that I have to call disney to confirm the reservations. I always wanted to do this....but was very concerned about how much personal and financial info I would have to disclose. I have read about the nice and easy transactions and the transactions that have gone sour.

I know that this is about trust and to be very careful. Information is greatly appreciated

The payment options are all up to the DVC member. They might take a credit card, but they might require a cash payment. Lots of members require a partial payment once the reservation is made, unless it is made with less than 60 days until the start of the reservation. Then they may require the remaining due at least 60 days ahead of time.

This is an agreement between you and an individual. Disney is not involved in any way.

Technically, if you are not a member, you will not have access to call Member Services. You must have a member number to call Member Services. Usually, though, the member will provide a copy of the confirmation since it will be mailed to them and not you. Your name will be on the reservation.

The member may not allow any cancellations or returned payment if you choose not to go for any reason, including a medical emergency.

But everything depends on the member.

Make sure you have left enough time to make these arrangements. Any busy times between now and Easter may be difficult to get. You just have to find someone to check for you since you cannot do that since you are not a member.

Good luck.

I have rented points to others a few times. I share my name, phone number, physical address, and email address, and I ask the other person to share similar information with me. I have accepted PayPal (I don't see the credit card number) and cashier's check. No "financial information" is exchanged.

I thought you could call Member Services to confirm your reservation, once you have the confirmation number. I'd be surprised if you can't.

You can call and verify the information. The member can give you the number to Member Services. They will ask for the reservation number, but if you don't have that, you can tell them that someone booked the reservation in your name. They will ask you for your name and which resort you are staying at.

When I rent points, I require name and address for the reservation, and $100 to confirm, either by check or PayPal, with the rest to be paid in two installments, 1/2 when the renter receives the confirmation, and the other 1/2 6-8 weeks prior to check-in. I take personal checks, since a bounced check doesn't harm me, and I retain control over my points at all times until check-in.

Hi
thanks for asking this.
i am hoping to rent points for next summer and am concerned about the possibility of a member canceling the reservation after payment etc has been made( i know that renting require trust!?) and turing up with no accomadation. Does anyone know if i would be informed by Disney ( as the reservation would be in my name). thanks for your help. Ruth

No, you would not be informed by Disney. The reservation will be in your name, but it will be under the control of the member until you check in at the resort. You will need to call anytime you wish to verify your reservation.

I would suggest getting (and checking) references of anyone you deal with. Looking at posts they have made on this board may give you an idea what type of person they are, but references can also help. You can insist on a written contract with the name, address, phone number of the member plus all pertinent information about the rental- including dates, resort, room type and any payment/cancellation policy. Regardless what information you have, TRUST will still be an integral component of the transaction. The trade-off is a bargain rate on a DVC villa, but make sure the savings will justify any worries you may have during the process.
