GAWD! My husband and I thought the film would never be over. We thought the premise unbelievable, the acting not so great, the music REALLY bad and although we liked the scenery.... we've seen lots of films with rivers and mountains. What was up with them NEVER fishing? I mean, come on....they NEVER fished? These guys were cowboys; gay or not gay-they were cowboys and would have fished given the beautiful river they always camped on. Where was the 2nd daughter of Heath Ledger's character? Why did his ex-wife suggest he get married again? Their first love scene was just stupid and weird-no prior tension, nothing leading up to it. We really hated it. We laughed hard at dinner after the film because we thought we might be the only people honest enough to admit we really thought the film stunk!
I will admit to thinking Jake handsome in the film although I've always loved Heath and thought he was downright ugly most of the time. Also, did Michelle Williams have enough of a part to earn a supporting actress award? Oh well!!
We should have seen Memoirs of a Geisha. sigh

I thought it was good. I thought Heath did a better job acting than Jake, although I thought Jake was a likable character. I did not think Michelle's part warranted an Academy Award nomination. But, then again, there were a few Academy Award winners this year that I was underwhelmed by.

I thought the premise of the movie, which was less about gay and more about tolerance, judgementalness, and long-lasting love, was pretty well-served.

I saw the movie for the first time on Saturday and thought that it was the most powerful film I have ever seen. It was beautiful, but also tragic. I was depressed for most of Sunday, but I still want to see it again.

The story is brilliant because it does not spoon-feed the viewer (or reader). There are parts of it that are ambiguous and the viewer must make his or her own interpretation of the events. Reading the short story (30 pages long) helps to clear up some questions.

I liked the acting. Heath Ledger was amazing and Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams were quite good. The make-up job that aged those two young men was phenomenal.

I, too, was puzzled as to why Ennis' second daughter did not appear in any of the later scenes. I wonder if it had to do with budgeting and not being able to afford another adult actress?

Brokeback Mountain is a story that I will carry close to my heart for the rest of my life.

I am with the op, I thought it was long, boring and stupid. Same thing over and over. How could that be a powerful movie?

I thought the movie was amazing. The subtlety of the themes was more interesting to me than the emotional pyrotechnics used in more contrived-types of films. I thought Heath's acting was amazing, as was Michelle's. I found them very natural.
