Received a postcard yesterday, called and got $79/night POR 5/28-6/3. I was really happy. DH comes home and decides to add an extra night, fine, even more happy! While on the phone asks if any deluxes are available, CM checks, yes, the Poly garden view for $229. He holds that room as well. All last night I went back in forth in mind over which to choose. I could have a resort for 616/week or 1876...big price difference. This whole vacation trip started out as let's go to Destin, FL for a week. DH says maybe get a Disney resort instead and we will hang around by the pool instead of doing a lot of park time. Next day is when postcard arrives.
Soooo, this morning I decided Poly it is, never been, always wanted to, let's do it. Will I be happy spending 3X as much for the resort, keeping in mind spending lots of time at the resort (looking at 4/5 day basic ticket)? Also have 3 kids 12, 8, 4 so obviously room size at Poly makes big difference.
Tell me all the reasons I'll love the Poly. Sorry it's so long, need to tell someone who will understand!!! (BTW, we were at the world 2X last year-highly unusual for us, hadn't been there for 6 years prior to that!)
TIA :flower:

I've never been to POR, but I have heard it is nice. Stayed at the Poly last year. With kids, you can't beat a monorail hotel, a little ride and you are in MK, Epcot. You will love the convenience. The pool is tropical and newly refurbished, and eat at O'hana's the restaurant in there. Kona Cafe is also good for bfast, try the Tonga Toast (banana stuffed french toast..) Have fun,

We had the same decision to make as you. We have stayed at POR numerous times and the Poly just once. What we decided to do was split our stay between the two. While at the POR we we try to go to MGM and AK. When we are staying at the Poly we try to go to the MK and Epcot because of the monorail. With three kids you can't beat the Poly. Then Volcano pool and slide, larger room, daybed, nice arcade and monorail. I know this doesn't answer your question of one resort or the other, but I thought I would just give you another choice to ease the $1000 difference.

Thaks, I appreciate your input. I think I'm going with the Poly, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.

If I was planning alot of resort time I'd definitely take the Poly. We were trying to decide between CBR and the Poly. (Poly is my dream) but since we will be in the parks most of the time I took the cheaper route. Enjoy!!!

Of the two resorts I have only stayed at the Poly. When we book our trips we always try for a great rate at a deluxe. When we can't get that we stay at CSR. We're always happy either way, it's just a matter of luck when booking the ressies. Poly is a fun place, and if you've always wanted to, and are able, go for it :earsboy:

When I was a kid, we stayed at the Poly. The atmosphere is great and very relaxing. And with the monorail right there at your resort, the kids will just be in heaven.

Not sure if you'd feel comfortable doing it, but when I was a kid, my brother and I were allowed to ride the monorail and head on to MK by ourselves - checking in at a specific time of course. I think it was as much a vacation for my parents as it was for us! :earboy2:

I'd definitely say monorail for the convenience. We are south of Atlanta so I hear what you're saying about Destin but personally I can only take so much "beach". We've found that a trip to Disney winds up costing about the same as some of our beach trips/ mountain trips. Went to Gatlinburg for Thanksgiving. OMG! $5 to park everywhere. No public parking whatsoever, even at the Hard Rock! We went to the Aquarium, did Ripleys , you know. DH remarked that we should have just gone back to Disney even though we had just been there in Oct. Truly, we spent as much to eat up there as if we were at the resorts. Atmosphere wasn't near as nice either. Reminded me of the strip in Panama City :(
