I feel as if there should be a single thread for all the trials and tribulations surrounding finding a volunteer opportunity for the Give a Day program. Everything was filled up in my area, I submitted for a few "Schedule directly with the organization" things, but they said that they had gotten an overwhelming response and weren't able to accomodate anyone else.

Finally tonight a spot opened for one of the activities on MLK day. I had seen it there, but another spot mysteriously opened up out of nowhere. Don't know if they added more spots or if someone cancelled. I just hope that when they get back to me it's legit and not some mistake on the website!

I'll be volunteering at a specialized hospital with senior citizens. What are you doing?

DH and I each signed up to make blankets for Project Linus. We each have to make 2 blankets and we completed 3/4 tonight. They are Fleece No Sew Blankets. One more to complete and then I drop them off and the lady validates online.

My two kids are volunteering at our library. I cannot because I work there but two Ultimate Fastpasses should be sufficient for our September trip.

Here in Houston area there were alot of the "Schedule directly with the organization", but i just kept on going page after page until i finally found one! My friends and I are volunteering at a local animal shelter, we got in at the last moment. Whew!!

I'm jealous. I used to volunteer at a local animal shelter, but there weren't any animal shelters in my area posted. Hopefully one will sign up, I'd like to do something with my boyfriend to get him involved as well.

My favorite charity (CAAWS) was listed originally on the volunteer list...however...it wasn't listed on the email that just came out....

SO ...I'm hoping that it will come up soon...maybe they just didn't have any volunteer opportunities YET....

That's what I'm hoping...

"Fostering a Dog" was on there...and I'm tossing that around...although I'd love to help out on a Pet Adoption day as well...

And hoping DS will volunteer...and we can use our 2 days for the 2 "Fast Pass" options on his Graduation Celebration Trip !

(But he will have to wait till after March 10th...his 18th bday)

DIsney Hugs,

Mary

I have an e-mail in to a service that is building a park trail in May (our trip is in June). We were trying to do something as a family, but there are not many open to DD6. DD3 will just be coming along for the ride. As a backup I am working at a charity gala at the end of February, so we will for sure have one super-FP.

I don't know what I am going to do, but my DD and I will be making 4 blankets for her and my DH. I really want those Fast Passes :).

We might be holding a "can drive" for our local food bank. We have to gather 100 cans per person!

I saw the drive idea listed for a city an hour and 1/2 away from us and took the idea and e-mailed it to our local food bank to see if they would sign up so we could do it for them. It worked!

We're making cards for seniors at a center - Have A Happy Day, Someone's Thinking Of You etc... and cards for kids ini the hospital... and Valentines for both... our "group" is making about 3000 cards... way over the requirement but... we love doing things like this... my DD10 alone already has in over 1000 volunteer hours and that's not counting the rest of the family... I LOVE that Disney is doing this...more than the YOMD, more than the free birthday... more than ANY promo they have EVER had... it encourages families to volunteer AS a family. I honestly believe that if kids are raised to do community service, when they are grown they will do it themselves with their families JUST because it's what THEY do... it's part of them... and I LOVE seeing that...

Well ours should be interesting because its for 150 volunteers! Wow!! Hopefully one will open for you! pixiedust:

I'd be glad to make and send them. I'd be glad to do it anyway, but can I do it for the Give A Day promotion? Where did you hear about it??

I looked online and didn't see anything about the fast pass option. Can anyone point me in that direction please?

You can do it for GAD. Do a search on Project Linus and see if there is one in your area or state. Then you could contact the person and I've seen on other threads that they can mail the blankets if its too far away to deliver them to the drop off person.

Yes it was. Thank you!

I'm having trouble finding something in my area as well. Many of them are just not for us like "become a foster parent" or "volunteer once a week for a whole year in the gift shop of a hospital 40 miles away" and all of those that are local and we're able to do are filled. There is one slot open to knit a blanket, but I don't know how to knit. Hopefully something will come up soon that we can do. I find it hard to believe that the Greater Boston area doesn't have more that are reasonable.

We are having trouble finding a volunteer opportunity in our area. There are only 2 in our area and one is for a Junior Achievement volunteer in the classroom (husband and I are both teachers so that won't work) and the other has a minimum age of 17. Our kids are 13 and 11. We can drive to Nashville which is about 1 hour 15 minutes. We are used to driving there so it's not a big deal, but many of the activities there have a minimum age of 12. My 11 year old won't be 12 until April and there are no dates for April. I'm hoping the Second Harvest Food Bank will create an opportunity for ages 6 and up on President's Day since we will be in the city anyway for a doctor's appointment at Baptist Hospital.

If someone with a younger child wants to help us make cards (8 hours worth mind you) and mail them in I can add you to our group... message me
