Finally!! I found a volunteer opportunity..how 'bout you?

I am a girl scout leader so by doing my next meeting I will fullfill my volunteer duties to get my voucher. Who knew that being a leader could be so beneficial.

:thumbsup2 Our family is signed up!

We are volunteering at a place called Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas on January 23rd. They are an endangered species research and conservation center. We won't be working with the animals. We'll be cleaning-up the picnic areas and trails. This is a great project for us because our whole family can participate. :dance3:

We are Annual Passholders for WDW. So, we plan to do the special FASTPASS option. Does anyone know if it is like the Birthday FP they offered this past year with the Donald and Daisy groups and you get 3 or 4 FP from each group? I hope so, because we did that for DH's birthday this past year and it was GREAT!!! :wizard:

We are going to WDW the last weekend in January/early February. I hope we get the emailed certificate by then to use for that trip. If not, we'll use them for our December Disneyland trip. I believe they have to be used before December 15, 2010 though. :confused3

I am proud other DISers have gotten onboard with this promo. :disrocks:

Check out this page for a pretty good explanation of the FP:

I started the thread because I was confused about it.

DH and I each signed up to make blankets for Project Linus. We each have to make 2 blankets and we completed 3/4 tonight. They are Fleece No Sew Blankets. One more to complete and then I drop them off and the lady validates online.

When I was finally contacted by a rep from Project Linus, I was informed that the fleece tie blankets would not be accepted. They had to be quilts or sewn!:confused3 Has anyone else run into this problem?

Thank you for contacting me regarding involvement with Project Linus. As you may know, we are a non-profit organization. Our Blanketeers make and distribute handmade blankets for children in need.

Our greatest need currently, is for donated handmade infant blankets. Since many of the facilities we serve do not like to give fleece blankets to infants, we are asking for quilts/sewn blankets, or knit/crochet blankets.

Lastly, if you know of any organizations in your area that could use Project Linus blankets, please feel free to send along that information. We are still a fairly new chapter and are trying to find more facilities in need, that we can serve.

Have a wonderful day, and please let me know if you have further questions.

We are signed up as a family for a program called "MLK Day of Giving Back" at a middle school near us. I honestly have no idea what it is, but they allowed kids that are 6 and we don't have to work that day. It will be very interesting to see what it's all about as they were calling for 700 volunteers, and ALL the spots are gone!

Every year one of the events I volunteer for is a Robotics competition for high schools and Middle schools. I found out that the event is on the list for other states so we are arranging to get our state's competition added to the disney approved volunteer events.

I was already lined up to volunteer anyway but the woman that runs the event was thrilled that she could use the Give a Day, Get a Day to lure in more volunteers for this years event.

Finally got registered with Project Linus. I'm wondering if Disney will end up letting the program go past 1 million. Seems like there is a lot of interest already.

I already did a day at a local animal shelter. Cleaning/feeding (and playing with) the cats. I work in a veterinary hospital....so it was just like any other day for me. :thumbsup2

There was little in my area for kids under 14 so I signed my kids up for project Linus. The chapter here just referred me to the directions on their website. I can sew a bit....but figured the no-sew fleece looks pretty simple for the kids to help with.

So......I just got me, dh and dd6 signed up for Project Linus. Does that mean we all 3 get one day of free admission if we each make a blanket?? I just got so excited to find something that dd could help with, that I did not check all the details. We are trying to get a voucher in time for our trip next month, but will do the blankets even if we can't get the voucher in time. Such an easy way to help out.

I signed us up for Project Linus and I wondered the same thing...

I signed up to do a project on Jan 11. I signed up and at the end, it said it could take two weeks to get email info to take to Disney to get free ticket. Well...I"m going to WDW Jan 19, so I don't know if I'll get my free ticket.

Has anyone volunteered yet and it so how long to get email from Disney about free ticket?

We were very lucky and there was an opportunity localy that we all could do and we are signed up and go there on Jan 16th. We dont go to WDW until March, but wanted to do something asap so I know we get the tickets in time.

We signed up for a Book Drive. DD13 is going to make up a flier and distribute it around the neighborhood here asking for book donations and then we will go around and collect the books and drop them off at Hands on Charlotte.

We're signed up to volunteer at a rabbit & small animal rescue. Our volunteer day is tomorrow! :thumbsup2

I did not receive anything like that from our local chapter. We have already started our fleece blankets, as it was the perfect project for our busy family of 6! I
hope this is not a problem in our area...I better deliver them soon!

I think it just depends on what your local charity needs. Ours is in need of blankets for teens, so I am sure the fleece one will be fine for them.

Just asking again if all 3 of us get a day's admission if we are all signed up and make our blankets :confused3 help :)

We are also signed up for Project Linus. There is actually nothing in our state for anyone under 14. We have to drive almost 90 miles one way to drop the blankets off. We need to bring 1 blanket per person. I told the lady that we would deliver them during our Feb Vac. That way we can make a day trip out of it. I hope we can find something in the area to visit while we are there. I do alot of sewing so this is easy. Ours says we can do any type of blanket as long as it is all cotton for quilts. The email to us after we signed up said that no sew fleece blankets were fine. I have a huge stash of fleece out on the unheated porch. I will have to brave the cold to go dig for it. It will be a good project to do this weekend seeing how cold it will be outside.
I still have to go back on the site to put in a date. That date is when we need to have it back to the person running the project.

I am soo excited that I found this one. We will be upgrading our to a DVC AP. We need to buy ds2(who will be 3 when we go) an AP this year so with 5 of us getting the vouchers it is almost like getting his free.

Good luck to everyone in finding something fun to do and helping the community at the same time

I am so frustrated at this point. I finally found a place that everyone in our group of 16 (ages 12 and up) could participate in only to be told several days later that the 4 hour shift we signed up for would not qualify. We would have to work 3 different days in order to meet their requirement of a "day". The lead coordinator knew nothing about the program. She called and emailed me several times to ask questions about the program and wasn't even aware of the opportunities she had posted. I think I should get service credit for educating her! :yay: Still looking....I'm sure someone will want us!

We were so excited, on January 1st we signed up for Angel Food and on the 2nd were assigned our date and time and told location and what to wear, a couple days ago tey e-mailed us and said our help was no longer needed. I can't get into anywhere else with my youngest now, she's 7 will be 8 next week. I found one tonight about an hour and a half away but was excited about it, but the minimum age was 8 and it would not let me regiser my DD7 even though she will be 8 at the time of the service. By the time I went in to try and change her b-day it was filled.

It is getting frusterating, but more aare being added so I keep checking. In the mean time we are looking for a soup kitchen (seperately from this promotion) that will allow us all to help. That is more what we were hoping to do so we are going to do it on our own, but I'd still like to get those ears and pins for my girls doing something through this promotion.
