What a nightmare journey!
I've been in Cork all week on business and was due to fly backlast night on the BMIBaby flight to East Midlands. The flight was due to take off at 9pm and land at 10pm.
Trouble was, Cork airport was cloaked in fog - just the airport everywhere else in Cork was clear
As we sat in the departure lounge they announced flight after flight being diverted to Shannon. A Stanstead flight was cancelled altogether!
Eventually our flight was also diverted to Shannon and they announced that we would be coached to Shannon airport at 11:30pm and arrive at Shannon at 1:30am!
After a cramped 2 hour coach trip across Ireland we arrived at Shannon airport and were instructed to get our own bags of the coaches - a right scrum as you can imagine
We then had to go through security again to get into the departure lounge. We were met with a couple of hundred US soldiers in full desert gear! Not sure i they were on route to or from Iraq. They looked very impressive though. They were the 1st Armoured Division ('Old Ironsides').
Our flight finally took off about 2:30am and thankfully I arrived home safely at 4:30am.
